Thanks for the pics!  Looking good so far.

Thanks Gryndyl.  smile

The only one that doesn't seem to fit is Daenerys.  That actress seems a bit too, I dunno, waifish.  Then again, I suppose that would fit for events in AGOT.

I never got the idea that Dany was anything but waifish from any of the books.

GRRM approved of her being chosen, so she must fit his view of what the character looks like.
I've always pictured her being similar to the actress pictured.  Blond hair and fairly waifish.  I've only read Game of Thrones though, so maybe she changes later on.

No Cersei yet......the woman who played in Rome as the queen bitch would be a perfect fit though maybe a bit too old for the role

Poor girl who won the Arya role because she could fit the description "horse-faced". Actually, she doesn't look ugly but should work well in the role. I'm going to really hate that Joffrey kid.

Spoiler for Hiden:
they better make it to season 3 so I can see him die!  icon_twisted

This series is becoming more and more epic.

Too bad I don't have cable (and won't get it). Just gotta be patient for the DVDs to come up my Netflix queue.

I think i got that form the first Jamie/Cersei encounter...plus she has had 3 kids, is pampered and spoiled.....I really did see her more in the line of Atia in Rome.  Now Catelyn...there is thin and hard...unlike her sister

More casting (Casting is done, I believe).
From his website blog :

Khal Drogo - Jason Momoa (from Stargate: Atlantis) -

Illyrio - Ian McNeice

Benjen Stark - Joseph Mawle

Ser Rodrik Cassell - Ron Donachie

Sandor Clegane - Rory McCann

He even talks a little about Dance With Dragons:
Quote
Finished a Jon Snow chapter, and have just passed the 1100 page (manuscript pages, the page count in the final printed book will be different) mark on A DANCE WITH DRAGONS. That's counting only finished chapters in something close to final form. I have considerably more in partials, fragments, and roughs.

Even with just the finished portions, DANCE is now longer than A FEAST FOR CROWS and A GAME OF THRONES, and I'm closing in on A CLASH OF KINGS. I do hope I can wrap things up before I approach the 1521 page length of A STORM OF SWORDS.

Works for me...well, as long as I live long enough to read them.

The HBO series is going to be awesome. (There, I doomed it)

I'm pretty sure that I read in his blog somewhere that Dance was not going to be the last in the series.  I'll see if I can find.

EDIT: The next two proposed books are going to be called The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring.

yeah, Dance is definitely not the last, but it wasn't part of his original planned 5 book series.  Feast and Dance were not part of the plan at first, but he decided he couldn't do the flashbacks properly to cover the 5 year jump between books 3 and 4 so he decided to do Feast.  Feast became too big so we now have Dance, which sounds like it could end up running overly long too.

Dance was always planned.  Well, not always but at least since the original plan to expand past a trilogy.  Feast is the 5 year gap book.  Dance is also dealing with the 5 year gap but from what I've heard, Martin has moved the entire timeline up so the series should still hold to 7 books/

By the time Sanderson finishes the Wheel of Time, Martin will probably be dead and then he can wrap up that series as well.

Didnt someone hire a necromance to get him to finish up Wheel of time, or am I misremembering something from another thread? ;-)

Anyways - I'm very interested in this...could pave the way for good fantasy books being translated into GOOD series and movies, and not the crap we get these days...

I'm actually excited about this series- Sean Bean is one my all time favorites (Loved him in LOTR "I care not" and in Equilibirum where he read poetry), and the books are great, AND we need more good fantasy movies...

also, there is a small, very small hope, that if this succeds well, we might get to see a similar project based on the Malazan books

edit: to reflect that its a series, not a movie

Then you need to go look up Sharpe's Rifles and the ensuing series of films.  Sean Bean front and center as an officer promoted from the ranks during the Napoleonic Wars.

Agreed, IMO Sean Bean proved in Sharpe's that he can be consistently good over a decent length series. The fact that this is being shot in Northern Ireland gives me some hope for it. I do however think Southern Ireland would probably be a better setting for Westeros.

Awesome! Although I did have to laugh at the following:

Quote
Production on the series is to begin in Belfast  in June; a premiere date has not yet been set. Meanwhile, Mr. Martin should have plenty of time to finish writing the last two books in what he has said is a seven-book series.

Entertainment Weekly has 10 photos from the series up on their site: http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20385926_20442931,00.htm

Looks like Sam's in the first pic and Bronn in the last. Catelyn look a bit more pudgy than I had pictured her.

HBO's "Making Of" video for Game of Thrones: http://www.makinggameofthrones.com/production-diary/2010/12/5/inside-game-of-thrones-feature.html

Can reccognize several scenes from the first book. Get a look at Sandor Clegane, Petyr Baelish, Jorah Mormont, Viserys Targaryen and I think a quick peek at Sansa and Arya Stark. Then hear how bad you mangled their names in your head.

I hope they're smart and just offer the season available on demand from places like Amazon Video and the Zune Marketplace.  That way I can see the episodes as they come out and pay them some money for their effort without having to get cable + HBO (or wait a year for the DVDs) just to see this .

This is HBO, dude.  You're going to have to wait.  Regular subscribers would not be very happy if HBO suddenly started making episodes of their TV shows available on demand for a nominal fee elsewhere.
