for those of you waiting for DVD/Blu Ray, season 1 will hit the shelves March 6th.
Oh shit, these DVDs and Mass Effect 3 release on the same day? Do I really *need* to go to work in the month of March? - Ash

This perfectly describes my experience trying to watch the series legitimately as well. I have waited patiently for the stupid Blu-rays to come out, though.

Honestly it's been less than a year since season 1 ended. It's not like the show was on 10 years ago and HBO is just now getting around to releasing it. As is standard for HBO they will release a season just prior to the next beginning. If that dumb ass in the comic wanted to watch the series so bad he could have just signed up for one month of HBO, watched the entire thing on HBO Go and then canceled his subscription. $15.00 and he's done.

Except you can't just sign up for HBO. In most places, if you don't have cable at all you have to sign up for a whole suite of things before getting access to HBO. In my area, that requires getting digital cable which runs $80/month, not to mention the installation fees.

Admittedly, that's more of a general problem than something specific to GoT. Until we get a system that works across the whole world and lets everyone watch shows at the same time this will continue to be the case.

that's a great deal. oddly enough I'm not feeling the need to own this series yet- I think if it runs to completion I'll probably get it.

just over a month! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=cNLc5Nf9YxA(not sure how new that is since it's named odd and not an official channel)[edit] not sure how spoilerific the commercial is either(it's been awhile since I read the book), so watch at you're own risk.

Ow, careful with the spin there! Someone might get hurt. It's not HBO's best selling DVD. What HBO says is that the Game of Thrones DVD has the best sales numbers in its first week of any HBO show ever. I suspect it's got a long way to go before it can claim to have sold more copies in total than the other shows.

It's actually cheap too for an HBO show. $35 for the Blu-Ray. Damn, that's a nice price. The cheapest I've seen it for up here in the great white north is $45 and that's just for the SDVD version - BRD is $55. I'm thinking of still getting it, but I'm debating whether I'll wait for a price drop. Im also considering that it might well sell out.

I just got 3 months free HBO from Uverse just in time! Funny enough GOT was listed as a great reason to enjoy HBO free on the mailer I got. Don't mind if I do! I believe you can get the promo codes online if you did not get one in the mail. Oh and no strings attached just cancel before the 4th month.

damn, if they keep up with one book per season it looks like they could get close to running out of stuff to film before he is done with the series: http://m.ctv.ca/topstories/20120312/george-martin-game-of-thrones-120313.htmlStill, Martin is promising his fans a tad quicker finish to the sixth and penultimate book in the series, "The Winds of Winter." He says he already has 200 pages written and hopes to have it finished in two, maybe three years.
Even with that "speedy" prediction, it could be the turn of the next decade before Martin finishes up the series with "A Dream of Spring."

Don't forget tomorrow there is a 30 min recap thingy on HBO titled "You win or you die". I think it plays at 8:30 Sunday first time.
*This may already be on the bluray/dvd release, not sure.

It's not on the Blu-ray or DVD, but it was released yesterday on YouTube. You can watch it here. It's not 30 minutes, but 22, and that's if you include the credits. Not much new to see.

Great price for all the hours upon hours of extras we get.

It's even better this go round now that I know what is going on better. It really is one of the best shows I have ever seen, just fantastic in every aspect. Have not read the books yet but I just picked up the first.

Even with that "speedy" prediction, it could be the turn of the next decade before Martin finishes up the series with "A Dream of Spring." that link isn't working for me, so i don't know if it references one book per season, but in previous articles - there has been reference to the later books in the series getting two seasons per book (starting with storm of swords) meanwhile... events in the storm of swords take place within a year or so from the beginning of the series. in that book arya was still at the beginning of her story by the time the (or one of the - depending on your opinion ) most awesome sword fight in a fantasy book occurs... real life arya will have aged 3-4 years (depending on if they have an extra season in there) in book 5 and 6 take place in parallel for the most part (adding another 6 months to book arya?)... and real life arya ages another 2-4 years THAT is the real problem for the tv series in my opinion (if they were smart they would film ALL arya/bran scenes for the ENTIRE - currently published - BOOK SERIES in the next season - assuming there isn't a time gap in any of the later published books) (i have no problem with tv arya being older than book arya - i think i would have a problem with tv arya aging 8-10 years after the series ends when arya likely will age 2-3 years - at most) book spoiler regarding rickon and... most successful tv series end around season 5 due to the syndication stuff right? (probably poorly worded but i think you know what i mean) when do most HBO series end? i will be happy even if they end it at storm of swords... if anything... this series kind of proves the original point GRRM had stated a long time ago that it would have been impossible to film a movie series based on the books that gave it any kind of justice. Even in the tv series they are blowing some of the good stuff - like ned dreams from the books (a pet peeve of mine - but i am glad the tv series made it to air). I really wish they would do a hedge knight movie... heck THAT might have been a better TV series to shoot for... traveling knight and his squire traveling from village to village solving crimes and having succinct 48 minute adventures queue law and order bom bom
