I'm dreading the point where Joffrey opens his mouth. They definitely did a good job casting a kid who looks like a total prick. Kind of like Draco Malfoy in the Potter movies.
I was thinking the same thing lol. Couldn't they have got Justin Beiber? P.S. Bran still looks like a little girl to me.

23.77 including shipping from Amazon. Just don't buy the Kindle version- Random House is giving a big to Kindle owners by charging $36 for that version.

That may be, but that's still $9 a title for four books. Before the publishers were getting involved, Kindle books were all $9.99, and I've seen Kindle books since then that are above the old standby price point. If I didn't already have the hardcovers, I'd still be considering the Kindle versions, as I can't haul either paper version to work and get a few pages in nearly as conveniently as I can from my phone.

true, but that doesn't change the fact you're paying 9 bucks for a non-corporeal copy while the hard copies are only 6 bucks a piece.

The thing that bothered me is that it's apparently not cold enough outside the wall to see your breath.
Yeah, but it looked like it was plenty chilly in Pentos.

so the non-digital ones are even cheaper and B&N. c'mon Random House, throw us a bone! I can easily afford the 36 bucks but I'm not buying just on general principle.

Damn, you sure get better deals in the US - best price here in Canuckistan is $31.95 at amazon.ca and no free shipping. And our 1 and only big-box bookstore -Chapters- wants to fleece us $49.95 for that set!

You might also be interested in Martin's Hedge Knight books. They're set in the same realm as Game of Thrones, only about a hundred years earlier and are about a traveling, lordless, Knight and his Squire. I enjoyed them quite a bit.

So I should buy a ton of these and drive north across the border and sell them? you better build a tunnel to avoid customs. I hear they torture you with a duet by Celine Dion and Bryan Adams made just for such occasions, and if they need to kick it up a notch they show you Celine's sex tapes.

That was before Apple and their iPad deal allowing publishers to set higher prices. The end result - almost all the publishers are forcing higher prices on e-tail material thanks to Apple being ass-hats. There is a reason I no longer own any Apple products and never intend to own any. They force their higher pricing one everyone for everything they sell.

Well that was bloody great! Really enjoyed it. Like Lord of the Rings, I find the books to be quite dry so I was anticipating the screen bringing the story to life in the same way Jackson was able to do for Tolkien's dreary work ( ), and it didn't disappoint. Count me in for the rest of the series.

i bought the Kindle versions of all four books for $6.29 a piece back in the fall. they jacked the price up on both individual and bundled versions a few months back, just about the time that publicity started to ramp up for the TV series and the release date of Book 5 was announced. i wouldn't say that was a coincidence...

Not familiar with the books at all, but I just watched the first episode and liked it, even if I didn't know who anyone was and had trouble understanding what half of them were saying.

supposedly the ones in the 36 buck bundle are new versions that fixed a bunch of errors in the old Kindle version. did you notice anything with your old ones, and if so did they get an update? the first book did have quite a few mistakes, but the quality improved dramatically for the other three...don't really remember noticing any significant problems in those at all, and even the errors in the first book weren't really a big deal. the typos are noticeable, but they don't take anything away from the fantastic story being told. beyond the improved text conversion, they did also add Text-to-Speech to the bundled versions. the value of being able to have your books read to you is something you'll have to decide for yourself...

I have no problem with ebooks costing the same as physical copies, but when the price for ebooks starts to run higher, theres only one reason and thats a flatout money grab. Obviously they figure that the financial windfall from increased popularity due to the hbo series out weights any negative reactions from consumers.

So do you think the series will contiunue to be called "Game of Thrones" into season 2 due to viewer familiarity, or will they change it to Clash of Kings, maybe with a subtitle or something?

I expect they'll stick with "Game of Thrones". It's a title that can really be applied to pretty much any of the books and hence the series.

Their last new series premiere that I can think of off hand, Boardwalk Empire, had around 7 million viewers.

4.2 million viewers. I don't know how that really stacks up against anything else but it seems pretty good It's worse than Boardwalk Empire's first episode, which is a pretty different show. That show has had declining ratings ever since. It's better than True Blood's first episode, which is also a genre show and thus pretty easy to compare. That show has had a massive increase in viewers and has become a major hit.

it'll be interesting to see if they can get the audience to keep growing or if it's going to plateau quickly. the further they get the more complex it gets, and I'm also curious to see how theyu handle Feats/Dance if they get that far.

Just had to check imdb for that actress, Emilia Clarke, and turns out she hasn't done many things in the industry yet. I keep thinking it must be a huge shock to get this big a role, but also on an HBO show where she's basically required to strip. Kinda feel sorry for her and hope she's being well paid. That said, I'm looking forward to later episodes, no, not only for the breasts, but to see if she can pull off Dany's transformation into a strong woman.

She's one of the most enthusiastic actors in Game of Thrones, so you don't have to worry about her. You can tell in the interviews with her that she's really gushing with pride and enthusiasm over the role she's been given. Just because Daenerys looks afraid doesn't mean Emilia Clarke is.
