Good news, everyone?

Over the last week, several sources from within the animation business have indicated to us that there is renewed talk at FOX about bringing fresh Futurama content directly to DVD. We corroborated this with other sources close to the show before publishing the information.

The talk is of course still in a preliminary stage. Options reported to us include one or more Futurama movies in case of a go-ahead.

If -- nay, when -- I am as rich as Bill Gates, I will hire Joss Whedon and the entire Futurama team to push out whatever TV they feel like making to DVD all day. TV needs some old-school patronage because the execs and ads are dictating programming and that just sucks.

So they will be making new episodes just for release on DVD?  That would be an interesting precident.

This is only a good thing if they can get the same writers that gave us stuff like 'Jurassic Bark'.

Normally I prefer my comedy shows funny, my burgers hot, my room freezing and my porn borderline illegal.

But that episode, man.

Man.

It's not really a precedent.  Family Guy I believe has 2 90-minute movies in its contract with Fox...that will go directly to DVD.

Oh pleasepleasepleaseplease....

And straight to DVD would be even better - as long as they have commentaries with the cast & producers... that was my favorite part of the Futurama season sets.

As long as the production values are as high as the other seasons this is fabulous news if it comes to fruition.

Futurama was the most jerked around show evar.  It never had chance.

From DVD.ign.com:

Quote
In the first of IGN's exclusive Video Blogs direct from San Diego's Comic-Con International, voice actor Billy West (Fry, Zoidberg, the Professor, and many more voices for many more shows) revealed to us that a brand-new direct-to-video Futurama movie has been greenlit. Not only that, but there is also an option for a second movie as well.

With the model established by Family Guy's return – where a direct-to-video movie eventually spawned the show's return to Fox primetime as well – could the much-missed Futurama also be on the way back to a set near you?

An update from the same site:

Quote
Due to some communication hickup within CGEF, the following had been posted without all information attached. Most importantly, our latest information from David X. Cohen is that the movie(s) have NOT been greenlit yet. So, take what Billy says as a good sign, but not neccessarily as the final word on it.
