I saw a small article over the weekend that a major studio (forget which one) had bought the rights to the Foundation Trilogy. These are great books which will no doubt be butchered as movies..............

eh - how the heck do you make movies over this awesome trilogy? Isaac Asimovs style of writing and his stories doesnt really contain the plot elements, nor the drive that movies are characterized by. And Roland Emmerich?? sigh, we're gonna get another blow-up-the-aliens movie Im afraid, that will perform incredibly poorly.

An "action" director is exactly what is NOT needed for these books.....

oh, and this: "I, Robot," an Asimov collection of stories also conceived during World War II (and set in the same universe as the "Foundation" trilogy) finally (sort of) hit the big screen in 2004.]"I, Robot," an Asimov collection of stories also conceived during World War II (and set in the same universe as the "Foundation" trilogy) finally (sort of) hit the big screen in 2004. from the article... gods, while the movie was entertaining enough, it had nothing whatsoever to do with the I Robot book...

I've always the thought that the robot books (Caves of Steel, etc.) would actually make pretty decent movies. They have pretty straightforward sci-fi mysteries and action. Might work well as something on the Sci-Fi channel, like they did with Dune.

Asimov pioneered the Piers Anthony method of numbering.

Asimov wrote 3 books which are basically considered the Foundation Trilogy. Then years later he went back and wrote the others. I have them to but I don't think they are nearly as good as the first three.

If memory serves, they weren't awful, but just more Foundation lore and history for people who enjoyed the story.

The original 3 were the first non-Hardy Boys books I'd ever read and they turned me into a life long Science Fiction fan. I had never been more surprised in my life when he revealed who the Mule was. Movies are not needed.

I hope it's not dumbed down. If the psychohistory aspect of it is dumbed down for the audience, it would easily break it.

Psychohistory is the most intriguing thing ever - because, if you've deal just a little with statistical analysis, you could actually see that is somehat possible to actually make this science work.... but yes, I just dont know how the books can be translated into movies...

Exactly, because even though it's science fiction, there's enough science in it to make it plausible.

the movie now has a writer. Saving Private Ryan was awesome and the Patriot was decent so it looks to be in good hands.

It still scares me that Roland Emmerich is in charge of this... Will we see Will Smith in the role as Harry Seldon, dealing out jawbreakers and oneliners? (Yes I know he had that martial arts training but...)

no, Harry Seldon will become Henrietta Seldon and be played by Megan Fox and since Isaac Asimov wrote about robots as well, there will be robots..GIANT ROBOTS!! TITANIC ROBOTS! And they will be called....TRANSMOGRIFFERS! Because they look human...only GIANT! TITANIC! *pants*...eh..sorry about that, I just dont like the idea of Roland Emerich in charge of this...
