Formula 1 back in the U.S.

Looks like Formula 1 will go ahead in America next year after Texas reach an agreement with F1 Management for a 10 year contract

The Austin race will take place on November 18th 2012,being the penultimate race of the calendar


They still have a bit of construction to do for the race track and there have been a contractual row where all 300 workers were told to put down tools,but being nearly a year away it should not be a problem,we F1 fans are used to these deadlines for new circuits,and are always hearing similar stories








The Austin Texas race is the first of two American tracks due,because in 2013 F1 goes to New Jersey

The 20-race 2012 calendar begins in Australia on March 18 and concludes in Brazil on November 25

Circuit of The Americas will be the first purpose-built Formula One Grand Prix facility in the United States designed for any and all classes of racing. The master plan features a variety of permanent structures designed for business, education, entertainment and race use.

Its signature element will be a 5.5-kilometre (3.4-mile) circuit. Other support buildings will include a medical facility, 14 executive meeting suites, a conference centre and a banquet hall, as well as an expansive outdoor live music space. Future proposed amenities include a driving/riding experience, a motorsports driving club, kart track, grand plaza event centre and tower, and a trackside recreational vehicle park.

Ugh - at this point the major hotels in the area want to charge me a ton of money, make me prepay, and make the entire amount non refundable.

That's just not going to happen.  At the rates this race is going to bring, I'll just catch an event somewhere else.

I am very much looking forward to it but i will be only watching it on Sky Sports new dedicated F1 channel,i am sure Texas will put on one hell of a show

Hope they don't screw them over like they did here in Indy

I love F1 and went to almost all of the races in Indy.  I just don't know if it is viable in the US.  Open wheel racing just isn't popular.  If you can't make it work in the Mecca of US auto racing, I don't know where it will work.

I was under the impression that Indy worked fairly well up until Michelin-gate.

the race was fine, but the impression for a lot of people is that the races themselves are boring and there aren't many lead changes.

I think it did work pretty well.  The crowd was less than the Indy 500 or the Brickyard but it was still large.   I enjoyed it the most of the three.  I guess my point was it didn't work out well enough to keep it in Indy for whatever reason.  I think it was on the way out before Michelin gate.  Maybe Tony George and Bernie just couldnt see eye to eye.

That looks like an impressive track. How long has it been since there hasn't been an Indy 500 race? I didn't even know they had stopped doing it.  I just saw the Ayrton Senna documentary recently and it was very good. I recommend it for anyone with even a passing interest.

There is still an Indy 500 every year.  The US Grand Prix stopped a couple years back though

Is that what killed F1 at Indy?  I've always wondered why they stopped racing there.  Personally I liked the track setup.

It looks like the championship could be won today between Alonso and Vettel

Vettel is on pole and Alonso WAS 8th,but Ferrari have given Alonso's teammate Phillipe Felipe Massa a new Gearbox which means he gets a 5 place grid penalty so Alonso jumps up a place,Ferrari have done this on purpose to give Alonso a better chance


The F1 race will apparently generate $220million for the state of Texas

The FIA have confirmed that a seal on the Brazilian's F2012 has been damaged - a sufficient 'offence' under the terms of the Sporting Regulations to prompt a grid penalty that promotes Alonso from eighth to seventh and on to the clean side of the grid.
