Fines for using cell phone in library

A new ordinance that takes effect September 15th bans all cell phone use in libraries. That includes talking, text messaging and ringing tones of any kind.First-time violators will be warned, then fined 250 dollars if they don't comply. A second offense gets a 500 dollar fine and third-time offenders will pay a thousand bucks.

I don't have a big problem with this, but how much further is it going to go?  Then again, I have a cell phone and I hardly use it at all.

I think this will cause even more crying from the masses over something that really doesn't amount to jack shit.

Good. But also bad. I am all for people not using cell phones in the library. I am all against the idea that we have to force people to be polite. It just sucks. Why can't people just see that it is rude to use their phone and not use it. Bastards.  :x

One thing though, if the phone didn't make any noise, why wouldn't you be able to text message? That could be just a little overboard. They could have just went with no talking on the phone, and no ringing or tones, period.

Why can't they text message as long as the phone is on silent?

I don't use my phone for text messaging, and I generally only use the phone for very convenient short calls or emergencies. BUT, I do think they should still be able to have their phones turned on, as long as they're on silent. I don't see how text messaging can in any way disturb anyone else in a library as long as it's done quietly.
