Well, it's the look to which the 80's aspired, at least.

I would say this is more 80s.... (To be fair this was from an early 90's compilation of a 70s-80s band.)

(That doesn't strike me as being 80s at all, really.)

That first one doesn't look 80's at all to me, more like early 90's.

Anecdote to go along with that album:

During college I worked as a crappy night time DJ in a bar near the campus.  I did so because it was an easy way to pay for my beer.  The owners of the bar were a lovely Lebanese couple who had come to this country with almost nothing and and worked hard to buy this little establishment (Thursday's Lounge in Akron, Ohio).  I thought the world of them (still do, though they've since passed on) and would drive up to Cleveland to a warehouse distributor with Fred (the husband) on every other Saturday to stock up on the latest records for the booth.

Anyway, one day we're up there and I'm off looking through the records when I hear Fred come up behind me.  He taps me on the shoulder and holds out the above record and simply tells me, "He's famous.  My wife loves him.  Kids will like this?"

He was so sincere about it that I didn't have the heart to tell him that the only people that didn't think Hasselhof the rock star was a joke were either German or Hasselhof himself, so I told him I thought they would.

As a joke, I put the album in the window of the booth and after the first night it was on display, it became one of the most requested records I had.  I know folks were being comically ironic, but Fred thought he had his finger on the pulse of that generation's youth whenever he'd hear it and see people dancing and laughing.

I never told him otherwise...

Of course, there was also the time he told me he had just made a killing on a pair of new speakers for the bar's dance floor.  Turns out he'd bought them out of a van in an alley. When he brought them into the bar for me to put up, it turned out to be a pair of home floor speakers you could get for about 100 bucks each at a J.C. Penney or a Sears.

Oh man, the speaker scam out of the back of a van is LEGENDARY. Back in the late 80's I was hit up at a bank walking up to the ATM. Two guys in a plain white van came screaming around the corner, threw open the door and tried to sell me a pair of speakers they said they had extra stock of due to an inventory mistake. I'll never forget their sales pitch:

"The subwoofers have nitrogen cooling!"

Wow, really Mr. Wizard? Needless to say, I laughed at them and walked away.

I don't think there's an Ohio Players album cover that doesn't involve a half naked woman in one form or another.

This is the 80's people. When rock bands all dressed like they were cross dressers out for a night on the Vegas strip.

I chuckled after scrolling down some and seeing that Google tags Adam Lambert for "80's album covers".

Great quote from Tommy Lee from this period, "Just 'cause we're wearing lipstick doesn't mean we won't kick your ass!"
