I have worn that OFF! album out. The missed noting the most notable part of that band - Keith Morris.
Also, it's so fitting that Dave Matthew's Band's initials are DMB.

Early 90's is tough. Nirvana is the easy answer, but I really don't listen to them much anymore.
I'd probably go with:
Social Distortion (for the early 90's). Garbage Hole Green Day

They Might Be Giants, if by early 90s you mean late 80s.
Sublime. Green Day.
Can't think of any others, but there must have been a few. I was still buying the occasional CD back then.

Mudhoney (still my fav right behind NoMeansNo and both still releasing some good stuff), Melvins, Tad, Lard, Steel Pole Bath Tub, Rollins Band, etc (Most are really late 80s but become more bigger in early 90s or I finally heard them then due to lack of intertubes). Lots of stuff on Subpop or Amphetamine Reptile. Its still what I listen too though I've added late 90s stoner/fuzz rock to the mix. Lovs me garage and noise rock and early 80s punk before that (SST, Alternative Tentacles).

Tori Amos. She was my obsession through the 90s.
Bjork, PJ Harvey, Juliana Hatfield, Liz Phair, Belly, The Breeders, Kristin Hersh were some of my other favorites.
Yet, surprisingly, I've never been to Lilith Fair

REM was transitioning into a much more radio-friendly band around that time, but I loved Out of Time and Automatic for the People all the same.
And, although I wasn't listening to them at the time, I now might have to nominate Uncle Tupelo.

Tori Amos. She was my obsession through the 90s. my girlfriend at the time loved her, but I found Tori would put me to sleep. I sort of liked Little Earthquakes, but she seemed to get progressively more boring with each subsequent release. About 5 years ago, Mrs. Gratch really wanted to see Tori in concert. I surprised her with tickets for her b-day, and she was giddy about getting to see the show. Unfortunately, it was one of the most boring concerts we've ever seen and the only time I can say I literally fell asleep at a show. Even Mrs. Gratch was bored, and actually asked if we could leave about midway through because it was so incredibly dull.

As a side note, if you truly love the Manchester sound from the 80's/90's (and heck, even the late '70s), you really need to watch 24 Hour Party People. It's easily one of my favorite films about music. How can you hate a film that has cameos from Mark E. Smith from The Fall, as well as a ton of other folks from the heyday of Factory Records.

psst...the U.K. isn't a continent. But Europe isn't just your favorite band. no, but some folks don't consider the U.K. to be part of continental europe. Continental Europe, also referred to as mainland Europe or simply the Continent, is the continent of Europe, explicitly excluding European islands. Notably, in British English usage, the term means Europe excluding the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, Ireland and Iceland. and don't dis my love of the band europe or i'll bring up your love for Winger (especially Kip...not sure why you had to have his name tattooed over your heart, but to each their own).
