Flame on right here

Whoa... this thing got my attention. While it wouldn't take much effort at all to make this better than the first one I dig the hell out of this trailer.

When the Silver Surfer appeared he was the Herald of Galactus (big guy who destroys and eats planets).  The Surfer would find planets for the big man, and that's why he showed up on earth.  IIRC him and the FF threw down before they convinced the Surfer genocide was bad, mmmkay?

All I remember about the Silver Surfer is that I never understood if he had any actual powers, beyond riding that surfboard...  He never did much for me.
As much as I loved reading the Fantastic Four when I was a kid, still never saw the first movie due to the word of mouth.  That, Daredevil, Electra - I think I've added and removed them from my Netflix queue three or four times now.

I took the time to finally read up on him on Wikipedia (which is usally right when it comes to comic book stuff at least) and wow, he actually has some surprising power.  The two or three things I read with him in it, I really don't remember him doing a thing beyond riding around on his surfboard.

40 years ago the Silver Surfer was...the coolest thing in comic books for me. Hell, maybe in the world. I am incredibly excited about this. And the awesome thing is that they can't really ruin if for me because I just don't remember enough to care about canon or how they really were in the comic books. I just remember coolness and dread that Galacticus would finally catch on.

Just finished the trailer...I think I've died and gone to heaven. woohoo!!!!

And, yes, I liked the first one. "It's clobberin' time!!"

Damn, I feel like a kid again.  icon_lol

Yeah. Hit Wilki. Interesting backstory on both SS and G.  The Fantastic Four do not appeal to me though.

Ok ok.

So Superman, presumably, is the most powerful DC comics superhero.

Who is it in Marvel? The hulk? Or...Galactus?

So if Galactus went against Superman who would win?

if Galactus was defeated by the FF and SS, i guess he's not that tough.

So that leaves hulk, who someone said, cannot actually be killed.

So does that mean the Hulk is the king of all superheroes?

Galactus and The Hulk are those uber-powerful characters who can get beat by characters with "lesser" powers.  They're like Gargamel, and everyone else are the Smurfs.

If there was an unbeatable Marvel Hero, it'd have to be Captain America.  Who's going to make the representative of the Spirit of America lose?

Galactus can create entire celestial bodies with a thought.  Superman would not present any challenge at all.  SS would present even less... since his powers were granted by Galactus, and can be revoked at any time (had occasionally had been).  Galactus is probably the third (and possibly second) most powerful being in the Marvel Universe.

Reid Richards detered Galactus from consuming the Earth, but he had to "borrow" alien technology to do it.  I think later on he used a device to destroy Galactus's armor, which caused his being to be uncontained, at which point he turned into a star.  This was reversed later on, I think, since Galactus is one of the forces which keeps the Marvel Universe in balance.  Also, Galactus isn't really a bad guy, when compared against the other uber-powers in the Marvel Universe.

BTW, there are many forces more powerful than Superman in the DC universe (at least in the respect of the "present tense" DC universe.  If you read "JLA 1 Million", you will see what I mean- Superman becomes something of a god-like being at that point).  None come to mind at the moment, since I'm not really familiar with DC as a whole, since I'm mainly a Batman/Superman fan.

I'll poke around and try to find some examples, but I believe Darkseid, for one, is supposed to be far more powerful than Superman.

Ah, I forgot- DC has a representation of a universal creator called "The Source" (not to be confused with the one from "Charmed").

yuh-huh.

The Tick parodied him with Nigh-Omnipotous; so did Sam and Max with "Lactose the Intolerant".

Galactus is the sole survivor of the Universe's "big crunch". There are objects that have buffed heros / villians to be able to take on Galactus; the infinity gauntlet and the cube are two such objects. The Beyonder is probably the strongest "normal sized" person with the ability to defeat Galactus. All of my opinions, however, were formed from my knowledge of the Marvel Universe about 3 years after the Infinity Gauntlet/Infinity War saga.

I'm intrigued: who/what is the most powerful entity in the Marvel universe?  The Beyonder (who iirc was an entire existence/universe unto himself)?

I just don't see how they can pull this off.  Not so much The Silver Surfer but the whole Galactus angle.  It's hard for me to think of a scenario where that doesn't come off as anything less than absurd on film.  They just did a revamp of the Galactus concept in the more "realistic" Ultimate Universe, but that wouldn't really fit into the style that they are going for in the FF films.

My gut instinct says they'll ape the Ultimate Galactus plotline, minus the X-men cameo, and probably the Captain Marvel but who the hell knows.

Nice!  I enjoyed the first one, so as long as this one is as good or better, I'll probably like it.  Looks like they got the Silver Surfer down pat - I hope they can handle the Galactus stuff just as well.

I think the pecking order (in order) is Eternity, Galactus, and Death, but it's possible for Galactus to be more powerful than Eternity depending on how recently he has 'eaten', and how much.

Oh, I forgot, Franklin Richards (son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm) is also supposed to be a being of very incredible potential.  Even though "Earth X" is non-canonical, it's incredibly good and answers a ton of questions of "why is this so"... at least for that universe, but not necessarily the Marvel Universe at large [since it's non-canonical, which is geek-talk for it's not part of the 'offical' explainations or story].  It's highly recommended, and I think I even prefer their explainations, since it resolves the major issues of why things are how they are, motivations of major forces, etc.  I mention Earth X because... well... without giving away any spoilers, you get to see just how powerful Franklin Richards can be.

Okay going back to the trailer. Does anyone know the basic plot of the movie?

i.e. is Galactus going to be in the movie too? As a primary villian or just a side cameo?

The silver surfer stuff in that clip looks pretty freaking cool - but I'm just trying to imagine how they could stretch it out for a full movie. At least without being incredibly boring.

Given what I've heard about the last film, that looks like it's the three star question.

I'm just hoping they decide to do The Thing in CGI this time.  (shudder)

I read on rottentomatoes.com that both Galactus and Dr. Doom would be in this movie.  That's all I know, though.

Silver Surfer is #3 on my list of lamest comic book characters just below Aquaman and Superman.

If there was a way for them to possibly make the Fantastic Four movie Franchise any worse than it already was... putting Silver Surfer in there was it. Way to go guys.

So, does Johnny Storm have to say "Flame on" before he can turn into the Human Torch?

I don't know... the trailer didn't do much for me other than make me laugh at inappropriate moments. icon_wink

And apparently yeah, he has to yell that every time he, well, flames on. It annoys me.

I really wanted to like Fantastic Four. I'm a pretty easily entertained guy, just ask Fyedaddy. He's convinced my standards for entertainment are down the toilet. And I ended up pretty much wishing I could get my time and money back (as did my girlfriend) after catching it at the theater. I'll be taking a pass on the sequel, especially with what I've been reading about it. :icon_sad:
