Here's the deal. My favorite band of all time, Skinny Puppy, is playing here later this month. However, none of my friends are into that type of music at all, and I can't think of a single one that would go with me. In fact, I can't even think of a distant acquaintance that has ever even heard of SP. So I'm dying to go to this show, but don't get too excited about the prospects of going to a concert by myself. I've gone to movies solo on occasion, but a concert is a much more social event. Anyone done it before?
I'm sure I'll end up going, as this will probably be the first and last chance I'll ever get to see Skinny Puppy live. But man will I ever feel like a loser. Oh well...

I went to a symphony concert in DC once to see John Williams conduct. Some scattered tickets went on sale the day of the concert, and I didn't want to bother trying to find anyone to go with me, so I just went. I still had a great time, and didn't feel like a loser at all.

Yup, just did it about 3 weeks ago.....Went to see Incubus by myself. The only slightly 'odd' thing about it, was that I was surrounded by mostly college-age kids. I'm 37  Still, I was able to act like an ass there because nobody knew me It was enjoyable. Oh, and I would say it's a great way to meet someone. Especially if mostly everyone is drunk or stoned

I've done it a few times and never thought anything about it. Normal stike up a conversation with the people near me.

i kind of went to a concert by myself once... a group of friends bought tickets to a concert that i wasn't expecting i'd be able to go to at the time. i later found out that i could make the show, so i bought a single ticket for myself and planned on meeting up with them there during the time between bands. it worked out great in the end...their group of 5 wound up with seats near the back, while my single tickets got me an awesome spot in the 12th row. i got to hang out with them between bands, and enjoyed the concert up close. i'm pretty focused on the band/music during a concert, so standing between two strangers didn't bother me at all

Seen some club shows solo.
If there's a bunch of people there, it's cool. If you're one of a few losers there, it can be teh gay.
Then again, you are there to see/hear, not be seen/heard, right? If so, then it doesn't matter!
I love you all!

Saw Sevendust do an acoustical set by myself once. Was a pretty relaxed show anyway though. I couldn't see going to a real concert by myself. I also can't picture myself going with my friends. Perhaps that's why I've never been to a full-blown concert before.

Back in the early 90's I went to a Fishbone concert by myself cause my friend backed out at the last minute. In the mid 90's I went to a Smashing Pumpkins concert with friends on a Friday night in Tampa and then went the next night by myself to see them play in Lakeland.

Went to Phish at the LA Forum on Valentine's Day alone. If it's a band you love alone is fine cuz you can really focus on the show.
Saw ALO (california jam band) on New Years Eve alone, didn't leave alone.
Flying solo ain't bad at all.

Sure. Unlike back home, not many of my friends in town enjoy the same music that I do. So, I usually hit the shows around here by myself. Its not too bad nor is it usually too hard find chicks.

I went to see Radiohead early this year by myself for the same reasons and it didn't matter. General Admission is the best way to go(don't know why you want to sit in a seat anyway  ) and once the music got going all else was forgotten. I was there seeing one of my favourite bands and was glad that being alone didn't prevent me. Go for it, you'll be glad afterward for sure. Hell, you'll be glad once you're there!

Thanks. Now I don't feel quite so strange for wanting to go by myself. I'm going to go no matter what, because I really doubt I'll get another chance to see them. When I told her about it, Mrs. Gratch said she might with me, even though she doesn't like their music one bit. Damn my wife is cool.

A few years back I was in St. Louis for a conference, and Paul McCartney was playing just a few blocks from my hotel. I checked online, saw they had some single nosebleed seats available, so I thought "What the heck." Bought a single ticket, go to the show.
Head up to my seat, which was WAY up in the top of the Auditorium, and almost behind the stage. And the entire section is covered by a tarp. Hrm.
So I go to customer service, they apologize for the mix up, and give me a new ticket.
Third row, main floor.
Best damn show I've ever gone to.
