My middle son is an absolute Iron Man fanatic. We would have been there on day one anyway but I'm glad to hear it's going to be good.

I've never really been into the comic book character, and I hate that I have seen trailers using Black Sabbath's Iron Man to promote the film, and yet I am very interested in this.

Can't wait for Iron Man. But that guy's top movie of the year was Cloverfield? Really? Hmm, though I guess that's top movies of 2008 so far, but still.

I'm not a huge Tom Long fan generally (I find most movie critics a bit too "film" for this poor redneck boy) but I have very high hopes for this movie, so I'm inclined to think Mr. Long is right on the money.

Where exactly did you think Black Sabbath got the song title/idea from anyway?

Not an Iron Man fan here, although I did occasionally read the comic books when I was a tad. They were too stuck in WW2 to interest me (very much like Captain America that way). I'm curious to see how they'll update the story to make it relevant for the 21st century...I don't imagine they'll play it as a historical period piece. I might Netflix it if the reviews are good. Or maybe -- maybe -- I'll even use the free movie tickets we've had tacked to our corkboard for the last year. (Movie theaters make me cringe).

I'm not big on the Iron Man character to begin with, and the previews haven't done much to interest me either. It might be a rental, but isn't anything I'm dying to see.
I'm finding more and more that these modern superhero movies just aren't my thing, even the ones that everyone else really seems to like. I absolutely hated the first 2 Spiderman movies (granted, those were mostly because I absolutely cannot stand Kirsten Dunst), thought Hellboy was horrid, didn't care for anything past the first X-Men movie, was bored to tears during the new Superman, etc., etc. I typically like action flicks, but all these superhero films just seem to fall very flat for me.

No reason to make it a period piece- Iron Man has been taking place in "present day" for a long, long time.

Dude... Dude, I'm not into Iron Man? I dunno, he was just never that interesting to me. I'm more of a Spider Man/Bat Man kind of guy (the first for my humorous and sarcastic side and the latter for my dark and brooding side). Not to say I wouldn't like it, but it never looked interesting enough to give it a try.

Um, Iron Man was never a WW2 period comic. It first appeared in Tales of Suspense in 1963. If anything, the origin story had ties to the cold war.

I only dimly remember the comic being a throwback...I must've read a few in the mid to late 60s, and it felt dated then. Maybe Iron Man was pals with Captain America? Or Nazi science was involved or something? Never got into it, anyway. But I'll give the movie a chance if reviews are good.

It's so corny and stupid, though. The only thing the two have in common is the name. Corniness aside, it's natural for people to draw a reference or even passing thought to the B.S. song. Does the song fit? For purposes of the trailer, yes. I don't think Barry Manilow or Neil Diamond would have equally the same effect.

it only has a release date of 2008 on IMDB, so who knows when it will be out. I bet it'd make a nice XMas movie though.

So who's the bad guy? Arsenal? War Machine (I hope not, since that would break from the comic)?
Iron Monger, I believe. And it looks like Tony Stark, if not Iron Man, has a cameo in the upcoming Hulk flick. Is there any reason to believe this Hulk movie will be any better than the last piece of dreck? Not directed by Ang Lee is a pretty good start. Not starring whats-his-ass is a good reason too.
