Donnie Darko I'll go to my grave saying it was overrated. Fun movie with some really cool ideas and a damn freaky bunny, but deserving of the rapid cult following? Nope. But that's my thought on the matter. smile

If you like mindfuck style movies then go with Donnie Darko.  I loved it, and have been eagerly awaiting the director's cut for some time.  The soundtrack is awesome as well (same guy did the soundtrack for Wonderfalls, btw)

It's one of those movies that my wife and I actually watched 2 or 3 times back to back and discussed at long length for days afterward.

Go with the original Donnie Darko. Apparantly the director's cut opens up a picture book and explains everything to you like you're a child.

Because it's one of those so-bad-it's-good Star Wars rip-offs from the 80's that a lot of us geeks grew up with. Robert Urich, Ron Perlman, Angelica Huston all doing a bad pirates set in space story complete with space herpes? How can you go wrong? biggrin

I'll get Angel Season 5 soon...

Another thumb down for Donnie Darko; I didn't hate it per se, but by the end I just didn't care what the 'mystery' was.  I would've turned it off if I hadn't heard the ending was great.

That said, the bunny was kinda cool.

Angel Season 5 for me too. This made me sort of sad too... The last of the Buffy/Angel universe. No more seasonal DVDs to watch forwards to. Or new seasons for that matter. finger you, WB!!!

I was hoping they'd include both the director's cut and the original versions of Donnie Darko. Guess I'll go ahead and get the original, unless the director's cut comes in a fancy DVD case... Yep I'm a major sucker for those...

And to you who think Donnie Darko is overrated,

I bought the Donnie Darko Director's Cut.  I have the original, which I found interesting enough to check this out.  From what I read on the Amazon writeup, the soundtrack was beefed up a bit.  Don't know what else had been changed, but I'm not sure I like the idea of "opening it up like a picture book."  Oh well.  I'm not sure what the big deal is, other than it is just different.  Certainly something to be said for that when you look at some of the tripe coming out today.

I want to see Motorcycle Diaries, but I didn't pick that up yet.

I have no interest in seeing Saw, but the display at Best Buy was cool.  That is a sweet little case they have that in: clear with the disc itself looking like a saw blade inside.

seeing saw.  I used to like riding those as a kid.  Looking back I don't understand it since it just went up and down.  What's so cool about that?  I had a ROBOT that transformed into a GUN and I wanted to play on a see saw?  Gotta remember my priorities...

The only one I can say I'll pick up for certain is Angel.  I've never actually seen an episode of Buffy or Angel on television, but I've seen every bit of both series on DVD -- I just need this final set to complete the collection.

It's a very sad thing to see both of these great series come to an end.  It really feels like Angel is going out before its time, but as others have said, it's probably better to stop while you're at the top of your game....
