I remember seeing that as a kid and really enjoying it.  Somehow that movie has stuck with me and I think, "what a great way to settle things."  It's like Rocky vs Drago in giant mechs!  Or maybe the Indians vs Yankees in Major League is a more appropriate comparison.  Anyway, it's a fun flick.  Don't forget the sequel, Robot Wars.  It's like the first one, only shorter!

Oy.  I remember making fun of Robot Jox in my early twenties when it came out....

If I recall it was about on par with Wing Commander (the movie) except the annoyingly bad actors were less well known.
