DSL Recommendations that aren't Roadrunner

So Time Warner cable has been pissing me off lately. First my RoadRunner connection has been really crappy for the last month, I have had two service technitions come out to fix it, but  it's still not working right. Then Time Warner adds ESPN HD programming in my area and they decide that they will charge above and beyond the extra fee that I already pay for HD programming in order to view the channel. Bull Shit on that.

SO I'm looking for a new DSL provider. Preferably one that is less than $44 a month, more like the $30 range. I looked at SBC Yahoo, does anyone know if that one is any good? Also is 3mbps good and what about 1.5mbps? Any suggestions would help.

i've been with SBC/Yahoo! for almost a year and a half now...no real complaints so far.  my service has been consistent and you'll have a hard time beating the price...i pay $29.95/month, but the most recent deal is $26.95 i think.  i've had a few billing issues when i started and renewed my service, but they were actually pretty good about getting things worked out when i contacted them.

While I don't know the answer to your question, I do have to comment on this:

Unless I'm totally wrong, ESPN themselves forced the charge upon anybody offering their HD service. ESPN wanted more money, the cable companies couldn't include it in their usual packages they gave out (without losing money), so they tacked it on as an extra fee.

Blame ESPN for this hike, not your cable service.

I'm not the biggest Verizon fan, but I get my DSL through them for $30/month, and so far I have no complaints (though it's only been on for 2 or 3 weeks).

Well I'm 0-2 neither Verizon or SBC offer DSL in my area, I'm thinking that I may not have the wiring in my neighborhood for it. That's pretty strange considering I live in a fairly populated area.

Where do you live?  Do you have the option for any of the following (for DSL): Alltel, Bell South, CTCommunications or NW Telecom?

I live in Canton, Ohio which has a population somewhere around 100,000 I also live close to downtown, so you would think I would have the wiring in my area.

Try a site like http://dslbroker.com/ and see if any hits come up.  The biggest problem may be the price...if you don't have any big names in the area then it's probably not going to be cheaper than RR.
