I ordered a couple of these last weekend and while it was certainly more herby, I thought it was a bit too much.  I'm a fan of garlic, garlic bread, and good pizza crust, but this tasted more like they just doused it in garlic salt.  And they really ripped me off on the cheese, which was one of their advertised items, "lots of great new cheese!" and mine had more sauce showing than cheese.   disgust

I haven't had Domino's in a few years, and I probably won't order it again anytime soon.

We've had Dominos now and again over the last few years because it is the easiest delivery option (using the web that everyone has mentioned), the only non-chain that delivers to our place other than Papa Ginos, and the nearby local places are nothing special. I'm originally from New York, and while I grew kind of bored of standard NY pizza long ago, it's still better than the odd stuff that a lot of the local Boston places make. I think a lot of the places make a style you often see from Greek places, with a stiffer crust, and kind of an odd taste.

Anyway, our standard order from Dominos is their deep dish with either pepperoni or pineapple. We don't ever get the regular crust. It's nothing special, but good enough that we're willing to get it once in a while. I can't say the same for the crappy Chinese they have around here. I've put bans on more takeout Chinese places than I can count.

As far as chains go, I wish there was Pizza Hut around here, but the nearest one is a while away. The stuff is really greasy, but it is definitely a guilty pleasure. We can get Uno's, but only through a delivery service, so that costs an arm and a leg if you don't go pick it up or eat in the restaurant. Uno's pizza is also a calorie/fat nuclear bomb. My wife has a Papa John's fetish (I don't really care for it), but we are not in delivery range.

While we're on the topic of pizza I saw a commercial recently where Dominos claims they've revamped their pizza and it's supposed to taste better now. Anyone try this yet and have any impressions???

No, but I hear they have a cool website.

is that where can get a medium 3 topping pizza for just 21 bucks?

The crust was ok, but the herbs almost overwhelmed the flavor.

Exactly.

Also, I didn't mind Domino's old pizza. I thought it was fine. It had it's own flavor and such and I craved it at specific times.

I tried it last nite and liked the changes.  I always felt that Dominos sauce was basically tomato paste with little flavor.  I can see why some wouldnt like it now though because it is now very flavorful and Im sure some find it overpowering the pizza instead of enhancing it.   BTW  if you didnt know, you can still get Dominos origional sauce on the pizza instead.

the real question is how does it taste cold/re-heated?  it may be different elsewhere, but the old Dominos pizza around here tasted horrible after it cooled down, even if you followed their re-heating instructions.

It might actually taste better on a reheat! I haven't tried to white sauce pizza reheated, though. I'm scared.

Costco large combo about $12. Not the best pizza but a very good pizza. Best deal for the dollar.

Dominos is two for $14 around here.  I think the texture of the new crust is better but the taste is waay too strong, it's also a lot worse reheated.

For my money I still think Little Caesars is best.  Two pizzas for $12 and they taste better than any other 'fast food' pizza around.  Only downside is they don't deliver around here.

Somethign happened to little ceasars. They used to be awesome. Now they are like Mama Celeste you used to make in the microwave on those little silver microwave heat things that came in every box.

I guess when they were on the verge of bankruptcy they did something...and it was bad.

papa johns is the best every day pizza...with pizza hut every once in a while.

Best pizza around here is the NY Original Pizzal. Really good.

I'll tell you what the worst pizza chain is - Pudgie's. It's only a regional chain, central and western New York. The stuff is just plain toxic. However, it's super cheap and they make a sheet pizza favored by poor college students. You'd always know when someone had ordered in to the dorm by the burning sensation in your nostrils.

We gave it a try this week. It is better but I do not like the garlic taste in the crust. More buttery would have been better but the garlic is not for me.

Papa John's tastes good but it is way too expensive. As far as chains go, I guess I would normally order from Pizza Hut. Luckily where I live has a number of local pizza joints, both cheap ones and good higher priced ones, so I don't have to order from chains often.

I wish I could get Papa John's delivered.  Their pizza got me through two years of college, and then the closed down.  Beats me how you have an unprofitable pizza place next to a college with 20,000 undergrads.  There's one near us now, but they won't deliver to us because we're just over the town line.   crybaby

I may get myself some Domino's later this week to see how it is.

We tried it Sunday, and the 6 others thought it was 'OK', but not as good as Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, or the 3 other places my family gets pizza from.

For me, I'm still reeling from the heartburn due to the crust.  It was so drenched in their garlic herb butter sauce that it left a ring of grease in the box heavier than the inside of a sausage/pep pizza.  Couldn't even taste the sauce.

Medium specialty + med 2-top for $16.99. Coupon is available on their web site most of the time. Of course, it could be regional. I'll have to give Dominos a try. I haven't had it in more than 10 years and it's a mile closer than Papa John's. I always pick my pizza up, way faster that way and I don't have to tip anyone Tongue .

So we gave in to the marketing hype and tried the new Domino's last night.  And it's marginally better, primarily due to the garlic butter on the crust, which gives it some taste.  I didn't notice a big difference in the sauce or cheese, but I haven't had much Domino's at all in the last several years so maybe it would be more noticeable to those who have.

Their website is still awesome.  Too bad their pizza isn't.

Yep, Stone Hot is fantastic.  Folks in the Alexandria/Springfield VA area should give it a try!  In addition to their pizza, their house salad dressing is great and their hummus is decent though a little bland (adding some garlic salt or other spices can easily fix that).

We've taken advantage of the $5.99 pick-up-right-now pizza at Domino's when in a pinch for cheap grub, but if we want the best pizza in the area we'll head to Sal's in Gilbert (owned by a family from Brooklyn).  We just had one of their sicilian pies last night after watching football.  $15, but it fed three of us plus there's enough leftover for three more meals for two.

If cost is a concern we'll opt for our favorite nearby option, Papa Murphy's Take-N-Bake Pizza.  They have the most popular pizzas already assembled and ready to go, or you can call ahead and they'll assemble a fresh pie while you're on your way.  Baking instructions come with the pizzas, and you just toss it in the oven on the included baking tray when you get home.  They're close enough that we can preheat the oven while someone is picking up the pie(s), and in less time than it would take Domino's to deliver we can pick up our pizza and bake it at home.  Way better than most pizza chains, and more cost effective as well since you're doing the baking yourself.  And the pizza is never lukewarm or cold as it comes straight out of the oven.  We don't even bother with chains like Pizza Hut or Domino's anymore. If you have one in your area definitely give it a try.  And our local coupon mailers always have coupons and discounts.

Here in chicago, we have no shortage of great pizza.  Geordanos, Lou Malnettis (my favorite), Ginos.  Deep dish pizza is the preferred method.  However, sometimes I get a craving for Papa Johns.  That garlic sauce on the side just pushes it over the edge for me.

As for Dominos, the general consensus here seems to be the erred too much on the side of herbs so I'm going to avoid them still.

I didn't since I normally think of eating at a restaurant is inherently a risk; if I go to a new place and it sucks, then too bad for me. But I won't go there again.
