So we just bought a little golden retriever puppy for my daughter a few weeks back - so far everything's been great - but about 10 minutes ago - she just threw up.

A LOT.

looking at the vomit - we can see there's little worms in it, still moving around. I figure that's bad but looking online it's hard to make sense of how serious something like that is. A lot of sites seem to indicate that most puppys deal with this and that some medication from the pet store will solve it. Others sound like it's much more dire.

Anyone know anything about it? What should we do?

Thanks

Go to the vet.  They will sort it out and get you some medicine.

Take 'er to the vet, and everything will be a-okay.

Our yellow lab yaked up a good batch of worms once or twice when she was a pup, and it wasn't a big deal. She's a healthy little beast, but young dogs - like kids - get sick much easier than when they're adults. Nothing to worry about, but do get the dog to a vet's.

Take lots of pictures of the dog, by the way. Puppy pictures are the best.

Take it to the vet for a full check up and deworming. they'll probably use strongent-T(sp).

Also keep your dog on heartworm meds all her life. its a once a month pill.

Don't worry...  worms aren't that bad.  The only ones that you need be truly concerned about are heartworms, which don't appear in vomit.  A little medicine and she'll be fine.

Don't worry.  Almost all puppies have intestinal parasites.  Its normal.    The most common symptoms is diarrhea but they vomit them too on occasion.  Take your puppy to your local veterinarian for a checkup.  The two most widely used deworming medications are Strongid and Drontal.  They are single doasges given at 2-3 week intervals for 2-3 times.  Have fun with your new family member.

thanks everyone - you really helped set my mind at ease about this.

Having the room full of that lovely vomit smell and then seeing those little buggers writhing all around inside of it ranked pretty high up on the nastiness scale for me.

I dunno, Worms 3D wasn't all that spectacular.

That reminds me, my parent's neighbors kid knew I was into video games, and so he'd always ask me " Do you haff wermth?".I'd say stuff like "Not this week; I just got my prescription filled!"

He was 6; it confused the hell out of him.

And I love puppies, and their pictures. I don't think Dafones was laughing at the situation there sparhawk; he was commenting on the pic.

As to the worms, I wouldn't worry to much about it; let the vet take care of it.

Wow, I really am an ass. I thought you were making fun of the puppy worm vomit and didn't see the post about puppy pictures.

I'm truly embarrassed.  I have no idea what to say...

There seemed to be some lag in the board man; I wrote my response and there was clay's post, and then I hit submit and there were 4 other posts between.

You're not an ass; you just looked like one for a bit. Consider your insensitive statement and how it hurts someone like me; a full-time ass who has to work hard at being one. biggrin

He he, I wasn't sure if you were being serious or not. You were, but for a totally different reason. No offence taken, though - I just thought you were a poor dog-hating chump, not that I was an immature idiot   .

I don't like kittens.  I assume that is okay?

I do like puppies, though.

I'm not even sure I like cats even though I have one.  I should say I don't like any cats but my cat.  I like all dogs.  I don't like babies either (though I suspect I would like my baby if I had one).

Well at least I don't download torrents...
