I loved Tate's character. She was so full of life and wonder. A perfect match to the angrier, and far more impulsive Tennant.

I think the difference for me was that I liked Chris's doctor (and I watched the first season with him all the way through the end). When it switched to Tennant, I didn't bother watching it until season 4 was underway, and I decided to power through it, so I knew she was temporary anyways.

DVR'd it. I'm still in season 6 (last ep I watched was "Let's Kill Hitler") so I'm not quite up to par with everyone. Fantastic series though. Since this year is going to be shown in five episode increments, I'm going to watch them once I have each round DVR'd. As strange as it sounds, I'm actually much more of a Rory fan than an Amy fan. It probably stems from his nickname and how he earned it.

The new companion seems cute and full of energy (though she spoke very quickly and I couldn't make out everything she said), but it'll still be sad to lose Amy (and Rory).

The marital conflict thing seemed a little out of left field and there to serve the story instead of a natural progression for the characters.

So, no talk about how the new companion is a dalek that's actually a human trapped in a dalek box? Was this just some kind of trick and she's not going to be the next companion?
I wonder what shenanigans they'll pull to get her a new body.
Also, I initially didn't like the Amy/Rory break up plot, but how they resolved it made it work for me since it tied heavily into everything they went through before.

She's companion material for sure: Smart, sarcastic, and sexy. And giving the Doctor a (outwardly) Dalek companion would really be a bold move for the series. I'm sure the character will be back in one way or another.

The marital conflict thing seemed a little out of left field and there to serve the story instead of a natural progression for the characters. I had a two-hour conversation with my housemates about this after watching the episode. I actually think significantly worse of Amy Pond's character for the way she handled it - I thought what she did was childish (in that, even though it was selfless, it was also very thoughtless). If this is the last we hear of it - lazy writing and it made me dislike the character, so that would suck. But I don't think it will be - I think that this opens up the potential for Rory to start having some doubts, not necessarily about whether Amy loves him, but about what she would do in a crisis and whether he can trust her. My housemates are so wrapped up in Rory-love that they feel that it's central to his character that he OMGLOVESAMYFOREVARS, and that it would ruin his character to have him doubt her, even for a moment - while I think it would be awesome to see him have to really, genuinely struggle with a tough decision in a crisis and have to take her behavior into account. I think it's interesting in that all the external conflict made Rory a giant bad-ass, but now he might have some genuine internal turmoil to deal with. I hope hope hope it makes for interesting characters, even if they're darker and maybe less likable (or if, since this is Doctor Who after all, they struggle with that, overcome it, and come out with happy endings).

The Dinosaurs episode wasn't so great. They seemed to want to amp up the humor but it didn't quite succeed. I also didn't care for the two new random companions. And maybe I missed it but the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti, she was from the past right? I found it odd they seemed to be technologically advanced. Was that set up at some previous point or was this some futuristic or other worldly Egyptian?
The Doctor seemed a bit ruthless in handling Solomon at the end there which kinda surprised me. He's been ruthless to villains before but will typically make a case of why he's doing what he's doing or show his anger is getting the better of him. This time he didn't seem to give it a second thought.

I was surprised by that ending resolution as well. I didn't think Nefertiti was from the same time period as the Indians who were firing missiles at the ship, if that's what you were saying. As far as her not constantly agog at the space ship or weaponry, it just seemed to be in her character. Adaptable, plus was there a hint that she'd been on an adventure with the Doctor before? I have to say that for the most part I really enjoyed the robots, voiced by Mitchell and Webb. A couple of moments fell flat, but mostly I thought they were very funny, and I expect we'll see them again. I actually enjoyed this one more than the last one. I just thought it had a fun energy and flowed pretty well. Not one of the top tier eps or anything, but a decent one.

I was pleasantly surprised. I expected a dud like last year's Black Spot episode, but this romp was more fun. The FX were very impressive IMO (the space stuff more than the dinosaurs). I liked it. Not as good as Asylum, but I tend to prefer the darker stuff...

I've quite liked the first two episodes and I'm not the biggest fan of the Smith era doctor. I thought the second episode felt a lot like some of the lighter episodes from the first season.
Regarding the treatment of the villain - it surprised me at first, but then my wife pointed out that he had committed genocide. I think the doctor took that point very seriously.

Not the same character?! Boo. They should have told us that much earlier if that's the case. Now, if there's some mystery around it, that's okay.
Mind you, she is very cute. And I really like the idea of a character from an earlier time being the companion.

We're going through Doctor Who again with my daughter, and it turns out they've done this before. Freeman Agyeman was in the last two episodes that Rose Tyler was in, playing a totally different character (who wound up working for the Cybermen and dying). Apparently, they later made reference to it by saying the dead character was Martha's cousin.
