Don't tread on me

So last night about nine I let the dogs out back to do their constitutional and they run out there and start barking like crazy at something outside the fence. I had noticed over the last few days some rather large dog prints outside the fence. So I look and see the big black dog out there in the dark. Well, I can't have this dog upsetting my animals so I get my pump BB gun and shoot the critter. I know the BB gun isn't going to do anything more than sting the dog and chase it out of there.
ROOAR!!
Freaking black bear lets out a roar and runs off!
I am left standing there in a puddle of pee and four dogs who want back in the house. Not all of the pee was there's.
In retrospect it was a rather small bear but perhaps in the future I'll just yell at the dogs outside the fence from my back porch.
Now I have to worry about the rule of three. Things always happen in threes. Mouse, bear, ?????

Wow -- that's kinda neat (though I see how as it'd be a bit frightning).

Here in my suburbs, the most 'unusual' wildlife I've seen so far are woodchucks and wild turkeys.  Not that exciting, but sometimes boring can be good...

We're starting to get a lot of people on MY mountain here lately and they frown on getting their dogs shot. icon_confused Plus they've passed laws in the last couple of years making it illegal.

Don't shoot a bear with a shotgun. Nothing pisses them off more, and it also won't kill them.

Or Nazi zombies.

Seriously, I had a similar thing happen when I lived in Michigan.  I was up in my hunting blind and this damned dog kept sleeping near my hunting area.  Well, I see what I thought was the dog all curled up behind a log.  I pulled out a pellet pistol and popped him in the ass with it.  What I saw then was the rest of the 'dog' was obscured behind the log.  Damned bear stood up, roared, and ran off (thank God - it was Bow season and I'd have been in serious trouble) into the woods.

for us city folks, if we shot at shadows, more than likely a lot more than just BB's would come back our way, 9mm slugs most likely.

Teh Eddie?

NEvermind. I was gonna post a pic of a guy standing over a dead bear (google search: bear hunter), but the results on google just made me sick.  There's one in particular of 2 dummies standing over the body of what looked like a mature, beautiful kodiak or grizzly.

Such beautiful animals hunted for no other reason than for some lame ass to get his jollies.  Now I'm in a bad mood.

Thanks DBT.  And thanks Ed.

*nod*  I was never a big fan of rifle season.  I did black powder and bow.  Both require the utmost patience and skill.  I gutted, cleaned, skinned, and ate everything I killed too.

My hunting days are long gone. I'll hunt if I have to, like in a collapse of civilization type thing but I really don't like to kill things anymore. Except for mice. I hate their cute little faces and the turds everywhere and their little diseased ridden feet climbing all over the house.
I'd just as soon pee on one. Wait! That reminds me of a story.....................

I've not hunted in at least a decade.  Nothing to hunt in Arizona, and I don't have a big desire to seek out something to hunt somewhere else.
