Swung by Best Buy at 3am, was looking to line up for the 5am opening to get a mini-DV camcorder. The line was all the way around the back of the shopping center already. I was in bed asleep at 3:15.

That's ridiculous. I remember the good ol days when you could get there at 4 and be 30th in line.  Ahh, the golden age of black friday.

Slept in until 9:30 am then headed into work for a 9 hour shift.  I really didn't see any deals that wowed me (probably because I already bought most of the stuff I need).

Noticed at CC they had Quake 4 and Perfect Dark Zero for the 360 at $16.99.  If you are a buyer and like mediocre to good shooters, not a bad deal there.  Mine had 8 copies or so of each.  No one even looking at them.  I was at the Barnes and Noble next door just hanging out and thought I would stroll over and see what the hoopla was and that was about all I saw.

There's not a chance in hell I would step foot in any retail establishment today.  People are f'ing insane.

Mrs. Gratch had to be to work at 5:30 this morning (at Bath & Body Works) and brave the madding hordes all day.  I feel bad for her.   icon_frown

Ashley furniture had a 25% off deal on all furniture from 5-7 am.  The wife and I have been looking at a huge entertainment center for our 61" Sammy and have been waiting for a sale like this.  It was worth getting up at 4 for it.  We tried Best Buy but there had to be over a thousand people in line.

I base the value of my time off of two things: how much do I earn per hour and work, and the intangible value of the time I get to spend on the things I enjoy doing outside of work.

So, if the amount of money I would save by standing in line for X amount of time is less than how much I would earn by working for that amount of time, then the "bargain" isn't enough of a value for my time. icon_biggrin

There were no deals interesting me today that would be enough of a value for the time and headache it would take to acquire them.

Went to BB at 6:30PM yesterday and was #10! A co-worker came with me as well.
PhatL00t:
  • 42" Panasonic Plasma
  • Panasonic HDMI Speaker/Receiver
  • 19" Samsung WS LCD
  • HP Laptop (For someone else)

Around 8 or so the line started picking up fast and within a couple of hours was past another store in the mall and around the corner.
Around 4AM, BB came out and started handing out tickets for items. Also, because of the blue laws in the town, the store couldn't open until 7AM, so we still had a wait in store.
Lot's of list minute people trying to cut in line, but the BB people held it in check. A few got in, but still got screwed when they realized that they needed tickets to buy most of the main items.

A friend of mine went to Best Buy around 3AM and there was already a huge line forming.  I told her to have fun.

Got my wife a MacBook... the $101 off at the store yesterday combined with my corporate discount made it not too bad... now all I need to do is learn how to use it so I can teach her. slywink I was planning on getting her one for christmas, then the hard drive on her 4 year old gateway laptop died friday morning. Merry Christmas honey!

Mine was very easy: went to best buy around 8am (well after the initial crush of nut jobs, but before the crush of mass consumers), and used a ggc to pick up NWN2 for $20.

The girlfriend and I went in to the mall at around 3 pm on the way to her mom's.  She wanted the 2 gig Sansa player to replace my iPod shuffle that she broke the headphone jack on.  They had tons, so that was good.  I also grabbed a $25 copy of Battlefield 2142, and a $10 copy of Monster House, which I'd rather have on HD DVD, but it's distributed by Sony, so no chance of that.

We then went over to Target, where I got Simpsons Seson 8 for $16, and The 40 Year Old Virgin for $6.

Lines were short, crowds were thin, I and I was pretty happy about the proceedings.

Neverwinter Nights 2 at Best Buy for 27.00 after tax. I didnt get to Best Buy till around 2:30pm and there were still around 20 copies left.

Hmm also a pair of Size 16 Nikes, normally 139.99 for 54.00. Shoes in my size are hard to find so I think the shoe deal to be the best.

I got up on Black Friday to get a notebook PC for myself at Circuit City. Unfortunately, about 3,000 other people beat me to it, and I got there at 5:15 AM. Fortunately, I got a better computer on Sunday (plus a free printer, 2 pieces of free software and a $50 gift card), so there's my Christmas present to myself.

My shopping for other people will commence on Sunday, most likely.
