Dark Shadows [2012]

There doesn't seem to be a thread for this already.

Official Trailer is out.

It looks bizarre and fun, though some of the wacky dude from the past in modern times stuff feels a little stale.  And I'm curious about the line between comedy and gothic melodrama (it seems way more on the comedy side than I was expecting).  Still the vampire sex is very amusing, and I'm intrigued.

Hopefully this won't be another Burton film that trailers well but doesn't hold together as a movie.

That couldn't be much further at odds with its TV ancestor. I only ever watched the show occasionally because it was light on the supernatural and long on gothic soap opera. It sure didn't have any comedy. This movie looks more like a re-skinned Munsters, or maybe Addams Family if it's lucky.

Still, looks like it might potentially be amusing on its own merits.

I seem to remember some occasional quirky humor along the lines of, say, the Avengers, but it certainly wasn't known for it.

What Ironrod said. So far I am looking at this more like "Brady Bunch Movie" or "21 Jump Street" reboot.  Um "21 Jump Street"  started life as a drama, right?

I think am Depped out, so I will,wait for reviews. ( this coming from someone who has seen all 2000 +\- episodes of Dark Shadows... Or "Dork Shadows" as we play with. Yes, I am a fan, but recognize the cheesy goodness. I have a lot of respect for what the cast and crew pulled off with their schedule though )

I have a feeling they played up the comedic side for the trailer. And having watched both series, and given how campy they were, a bit of intentional humor isn't necessarily a bad thing. Hopefully they didn't overdo it.

watched this the other night on Cinemax, and give it a hearty 'meh'.  Depp was OK, but it felt like they were trying to stuff too many plot lines from the show into 2 or so hours.

there was also a distinct lack of comedy for something billed as a horror/comedy.

I have to agree with you.  The daughter bit alone was enough to make me roll my eyes in annoyance.  Such a waste.
