George R R Martin posted a somewhat cryptic post on his Not a Blog page yesterday. It might just look like A Dance with Dragons has been completed.

I'm getting excited! smile

Nah, I think he just completed a Jon Snow chapter.  Read the entry before -
Quote
Snowing like hell in Santa Fe today. I feel like Jon Snow on the Wall. White everywhere I look, and still coming down.

Of course, I'm writing about Meereen, where the weather is hot and muggy, oppressive. If the snow keeps falling, I better take it as an omen, switch to a Jon chapter tomorrow.

Sounds like he's making progress but I don't think it's near finished just yet.

I'm sorry but he is not going to finish the series.  His health is poor, he travels constantly and it's clear from his blog and older posts that he prefers writing his other books much more.  He has at a minimum two more books with this one being a year from hitting the stores and then what...3-5 years for the next?  I love the series, love the setting, love the whole story but I'm close to writing him off (no pun intended smile).

That would suck, this would then be one of two unfinished great series that I've started.  And no, the other one isn't Jordan's.  In order for the series to count, he has to stop writing (for whatever reason) before I stop reading.

Here I was thinking that they could wait until he passes, then take the manuscript for the last book and draw it out into three different books to drag the series out even further...

A picture of the book and "'nuff said" with a mood of 'accomplished,' and he's not just surprised, but aggravated that people took that to possibly mean the book was finished?!

Really, seriously wtf else did he think people were going to assume that meant? If what he really meant was "I say I have good day", he should have said just that. retard  icon_lol

While I agree with you guys, I can see that he was probably just posting "A good day, with snow...nuff said" and didn't think twice about it.  Including the book image is a bit misleading, but maybe he just got back an approved version of the cover and wanted to show it off?  Who knows.

The last book was awesome, actually.  I'm happy there will be two more.  Sanderson was the best thing that happened to that series.

Quite possibly, except this time he stated it as "I was two weeks from finishing the book last month, but got sick. Otherwise I would have announced it was done already." - Not with those exact words, but the point was the same. The timing he presented with this message made people assume we'd see the book by early summer or late spring. Turns out they were correct.

He's got a pretty good blog post about it.  He's not done, but close, and the date is real.  I take it that if he doesn't make it, the publisher is going to print up what they have and kick it out the door anyway smile

Oh yeah, I think this date is going to stick (or at least be close), but because the publisher stated it, not because of George.  My comment you quoted was in reference to TiLT saying this announcement is no surprise because George already let us know it was almost finished.

I'm kinda hoping the big reason behind these 2 books taking so long was that he didn't plan to do Feast or Dance originally and he ended up having to come up with stuff to fill them out.

Yeah, that and the Mereeneese Knot he ended up struggling with for a large part of the time. I'm hopeful that with it being resolved, the remaining books will be easier and faster for him to write.

Pretty sure he's said the series was meant to be like 6 books. Thats surely changed now that he broke what was originally book 4 into two.

I'm sure he learned his lesson about letting the story run away from him. If he kills off enough characters in this new one it'll be a lot easier for him to figure out the last two books. They're probably both going to stick to just Hodor POV chapters.

A few years ago he was almost done as well. St. Martin's sent out bookmarks and giant displays to bookstores. I think they even advertised a release date. I hope it is really done this time.

Apparently it's not done but he's swearing by the release date regardless:

That's about as much as you might hope from him at this point.  I wonder if the TV series deal/negotiation finally forced him into facing some hard dates.  I thought I heard they intended to do one book per year or something like that.

hopefully the HBO series is a huge hit and they do one book per season.  that'll mean he has to get the final two done in about 4 years or else they run out of material.

Spoilers flood the Internet after 'Dance with Dragons' ships early

Quote
As "Game of Thrones" author George R. R. Martin wrote on his personal not-a-blog blog, "Amazon Germany screwed up big time and started shipping "A Dance with Dragons" before they were supposed to. I am told that about 180 copies got out before they were made aware of their mistake and shut down shipping."

Martin's response to the situation would make Tywin Lannister proud: "If we find out who is responsible, we will mount his head on a spike."
...
"Dragons" publisher Random House had no comment on the early shipping, and indicated that there were no plans to bump up the book's July 12 release date.

So, if you're a "Dragons" fan, you might want to avoid fan forums, Facebook...heck, maybe just don't go on the internet or speak to anyone for the next 11 days.

According to George R. R. Martin himself, a lot of the spoilers are fake. I'd venture a guess and say that the vast majority of the spoilers are fake, simply because there's a lot more asshats out there than there are people who've received the book early.

That may very well be true, but there are still true spoilers out there, and I'd hate anyone to taint their expectations by reading something somewhere that they shouldn't, be they true or false.  So reader beware.

Living in the DC area, I've typically been getting stuff the day after it's shipped (I also use Amazon Prime).  I got my shipping notice yesterday afternoon.
