The Thrills: Let's Bottle Bohemia If someone told me the 2nd cd by The Thrills would be this damn good I would have peed on their head. Luckily for them, no one I talk to in a way that would allow for peeing on one's ehad listens to The Thrills.
Thank heavens I don't know you in person then. I'd be very upset about the urine in my ears.

I'm glad too. I don't know that I could perform with an audience like that, And to clarify: I meant I would have commenced with the peeing if someone said right after the 2nd cd came out it was going to be this damn good. Cause I didn't see The Thrills going up in overall quality so quickly.

Gotta pimp this CD one last time. I bought it months ago, listened to it non-stop for a couple of weeks, then put it on the shelf after purchasing some newer music. Recently, however, I pulled it out again and it hasn't left my player since. Allmusic.com summarizes the album thusly: The singer/songwriter brings a variety of influences to his rock & roll — influences ranging from blues and Memphis soul to punk to country, and that country influence isn't surprising when you consider that his father is country star Bobby Bare Sr. But the younger Bare is hardly a carbon copy of his famous dad; while Bare Sr.'s name is synonymous with country, Bare Jr. is primarily a rocker with country influences. At times, From the End of Your Leash can be a little too self-indulgent for its own good, but that's only a minor problem — one that is easily outweighed by the warmth, humanity, and soulfulness that Bare Jr. brings to this generally memorable CD. Dig in and thank me later.

It would be remiss of me to not mention that I am firmly addicted to the new Travis single off of their upcoming greatest hits comp. The tune goes by the name of Walking in the Sun and it is groin-grabbingly great. I think it'll be an instant classic for anybody who likes Travis, especially those of y'all who were turned off by 12 MEMORIES (which I actually liked but that's neither here nor there...). Anywho, I highly recommend that you at least give 'er a stream off of the Travis site. 'Tis a pretty great video as well. Oh, and Captain Caveman, do you have this? Guess who finally does after much 'net spelunking?

Oh, and Captain Caveman, do you have this? Guess who finally does after much 'net spelunking? Funny you should mention it... During my usual net sleuthing, I discovered this fine item just a few days ago. Unfortunately, I was unable to acquire said item due to its owner leaving my presence before I could obtain it. I did, however, get a collection of Ryan Adam's early recordings. Rough quality stuff, but still quite good. How's the Lazy Stars material?

Still listening to The Magnetic Fields' I (picked it up for the second run this year). I would be listening to the Arcade Fire as well, if it wasn't sold out at every store I've been to in the last week.

i just picked up Sum41's new album Chuck on a whim while i was dvd shopping at BestBuy this evening...All Killer, No Filler was a fun punk/pop album, so i figured what the hell (doesn't hurt that it's only $9.99 either). so what do i think? they went a little different direction this time and i'm really liking what i've heard so far. they have a few mellow songs this time around, but the majority is an interesting punk/metal mix that actually makes for some really kick-ass songs. if you're into punk and hard-rock/metal, i'd recommend checking it out

I got turned on Guster after watchin Austin City Limits, so I've been digging into their library. I've had All of the Modest Mouse Cds on my rotation since I first heard Good News... a couple months back. Franz has invaded some air time, decent catchy band. Also got the new Sparta album and really like it after a couple of listens, was shocked at how different it felt from their debut but it's quickly grown on me.
Planning on digging into some Mars Volta soon, my friend keeps bugging about them.
Also gonna dig through some samples of all the music listed here.
Finally I'm still playing some older mixes that have Sun Volt, Uncle Tupelo, Sloan, the Shins, David Bowie and several odds and ends on them.

Capt. Caveman, I've gotten to hear a couple Bobby Bare Jr. tracks now, and I'm kinda digging them. I definitely like it better than when he was going for a hard rock sound. "Strange Bird" and "Your Favorite Hat" are the tracks, I believe. How are those songs in relation tot he rest of the record? The sampler is pretty great, overall. Lots of people I've been meaning to listen to more and never got around to (Trailer Bride, Jon Langford, Kelly Hogan, Paul Burch). Oh, and the CD sampler came with a Bloodshot bumper sticker, which will look very nice on my car.

Today I bought: Pinback SUMMER IN ABADDON Bloc Party S/T TV on the Radio - NEW HEALTH ROCK EP Then, on my way out of the store, I heard a familiar song... Caribooooouuuuuuuuu I marched back into the store and demanded to know what was playing. Frank Black Francis S/T Disc 1) Demos from 1987. Disc 2) Re-interpretations of classic Pixies songs. Reportedly a mixed bag, especially disc two, but clearly a must for fans. Did I mention I got Pixies tickets for December 18th? WOOHOO!

"Strange Bird" and "Your Favorite Hat" are the tracks, I believe. How are those songs in relation tot he rest of the record? They are a good representation of the sound of the rest of the album, but definitely not my favorite tracks. If you like them, though, I'm pretty certain you'll love the entire disc.... I assume by "hard rock sound" you are referring to his band, Bare Jr.? As you probably gathered from the sampler, the songs on his two solo albums are very different in sound. They focus much more on a more stripped down rootsy sound that better showcase his unique songwriting skill. rrmorton Posted: Wed Oct 13, 2004 12:49 am Post subject:

Right now i've got these in my CD player:
Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica Pixies - Death to the Pixies
The Modest Mouse CD purchases were due to hearing good things about them on Gone Gold and I'm really enjoying them. I love the Pixies album too, especially the live show on the second disc.
