I've read maybe a dozen of his novels over the years; I liked his ability to capture dialogue and make improbable plots seem plausible.
I remember, a few years back, talking to my never-do-well cousin newly released on parole and he referred to a equally shady friend of his as his "road dog". I'd never heard the term before, didn't know how long it had been around, but I did think Hmm, that'd be a good title for a crime novel
Two months later, Elmore Leonard's Road Dogs
appeared. Now, someone's going to say the term has been around since the '20s but I'd like to think Leonard was still out there researching ...
