Which ads are talking about?  There have been some that have totally gotten my attention.  Most recently it was morning tongue commercials.  Then there were 60's chicken hallucination ads.  Then there was that take a sit ads.  I'd love to be ad man for BK Lounge.

I think the Carl's Jr. ads are far worse.  Watching (and hearing!  icon_eek ) some guy eating like a pig and getting the "F-off, I'm eating" attitude portrayed in the ad is as horrible as the food.

The BK ads are done by Crispin Porter + Bogusky, one of the country's top ad agencies.

I think the BK "No Whopper" commercials are hilarious! Carl's Jr makes a good burger but their commercials are getting boring. "F you if you're eating, go into the breakroom!"

The ones where they punk people and claim to stop making Whoppers is so so rediculously dumb. I'm assuming the angry patrons in the commercial are all part of the act, but if not, are people really that stupid to go apeshit over a freaking hamburger? Talk about priorities in life....

Agreed.  The BK ads amuse me, but the Carl's Jr. ads annoy me so much I seriously change the channel any time they come on.

I assume that Burger King changes their ad campaigns all the time because they aren't working.  The "No Whopper" ones resulted in all the BK's around here putting "we still have the whopper" on their reader boards, indicating it didn't have the effect BK wanted (and probably pissed off the franchisees).  Then the "housewives trying to kill the King" series seemed to end abruptly.  The new ones seem kind of bland.

Compare that to Jack in the Box, which has been using "Jack" in it's ads for years, apparently with good success, or McD's and their "Lovin' it' series.

Yeah, you're wrong about that.  BK ads are considered among the most successful in the ad business right now: http://robertrosenthal.typepad.com/blog/2007/12/whopper-freakou.html

Basically, the campaign took the former signature piece of the BK menu, dusted it off, and reminded everybody that it still existed.  Whopper sales have apparently gone through the roof: http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080131/earns_burger_king.html?.v=5

Yeah, can you tell I work for an ad agency? slywink

The Housewives killing the King (which was funny) was to promote a specific burger, which was apparently only on the menu for a limited time.

Ditto with this Robot King stuff, actually.

Personally, though, the ads I love the best are Jack in the Box. smile

Honestly, it's not about loving them or hating them.  The reason why it was so successful is that it put the fear of loss into people who either at one time loved the whopper, or people who wanted to see what the fuss was all about.  This translated into more sales which is how an ad campaign's success is measured.

A good example is the old school Mr. Whipple Charmin ads.  Everybody couldn't stand them, the Mr. Whipple character was almost universally reviled.  However, commercial after commercial was trotted out with him in it.  You know why?  Everybody remembered the brand Charmin as being soft, and sold more than any other brand of TP on the shelf.
