I think this is just an excuse for 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon to work with younger actors.  icon_razz

Shouldn't someone update the thread title to reflect Singer is producting, not directing? (Matthew Vaughn is directing)

A X-men prequel works for me, just as long as the younger cast puts in decent performances and the overall movie equals X1.5 and X2.

Oh, and wasn't there a Frank Miller issue in 1 of his series where Batman punches out Superman for being too much of a fanatic? I want to see a film made about that.   icon_twisted

The Dark Knight Returns.  Bat's makes a suit of power Bar-armor and has Green Arrow hit Supes with a kryptonite arrow before beating the crap out of him.

Fortunately I'm a fan of Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake is one of my favorite films), and I've heard nothing but praise for Kick Ass, so I'm optimistic about what he can do with the prequel X-Men universe.  Plus, with Bryan Singer being at least somewhat involved I'm hoping that the new films preserve what made the first two what they were.  My wife still hasn't forgiven Singer for "abandoning her" and the X-Men franchise to do Superman Returns instead of X-Men 3, so I'm curious if she'll continue her boycott even though this is another installment of her beloved series.  While Wolverine wasn't without its flaws, we still enjoyed it, so I'd like to see some more origins stuff.

Bryan Singer on the film:

Quote
--The two leads will be in their late twenties.
--Xavier will not be in his wheelchair, but we will learn how he gets there.
--He'll also still have hair.
--Xavier and Magneto will create the X-Men together.
--This is not based on the comic book called First Class but rather is "a new beginning" for the series.
--Director Matthew Vaughn is "technologically inspired" by the James Bond tech of the '60s.
--The costumes will be more "comic bookish" than in previous films.
--Neither Cyclops nor Marvel Girl will show up, but Cyke's brother Havoc will.
--Kevin Bacon will play Sebastian Shaw and, yes, the Hellfire Club will figure into the mix.
--Filming begins with Xavier at Oxford University.
--The movie will have a much more international feel than previous installments. (The shoot will take place in England and the U.S.) Other locations will include Russia (though they won't actually film there).
--There are other characters in the film who have not been revealed yet.

No Cyclops?  Hair on Xavier?  They haven't started filming yet and it's due out in 9 months? (OK, looking back that's about the same amount of time it took them to do the first X-Men)  they don't know Havoc ends with a K?

And, please, one more story tease?
It’s got a lot of teenage angst. The Twilight girls will like it.

Quote
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How would you describe First Class to the uninitiated?
MATTHEW VAUGHN: The best way of describing it is X-Men meets Bond, with a little bit of Thirteen Days thrown in for good measure. It’s set in the ’60s, and I basically molded a young Magneto on a young Sean Connery. He’s the ultimate spy — imagine Bond, but with superpowers.

Quote
I know you’re under tight restrictions about what you can reveal regarding the plot, but, well, what else can you say?
In the beginning of the film, no one knows that mutants exist, and all the mutants don’t know that each other exist. They’re all in hiding. Kevin Bacon plays a very megalomaniac mutant [Sebastian Shaw] who decides that he can take over the world and that mutants are the future. Erik and Charles then meet each other and hook up with the CIA to try and prevent World War III. You find out everything about what went on between Erik and Charles.

So, basically, we have to accept two things:  1)  This isn't comic-book canon.  2)  This isn't previous-movies canon.

But Magneto getting to be a bad ass is always a win. smile

But it looks like they're using the same character designs and uniforms from previous movies. That's confusing.

They also show snippets from the first two films in the trailer.  I'm guessing it's springboarding off the movie franchise (minus wolverine...as it should be), but not the comics.  considering that they reboot comic book characters and teams every decade or so, i don't have a problem with that.

Bad-ass trailer!

I found out elsewhere, that the teleporting dude is Kurt Wagners father, Azazel.

I dont know anything about Azazel, but both his name and what he does in the trailer looks badass! Oh, and Erik looks like he'll steal the spotlight again. Professor X is such weak character (in terms of presence and charisma) in the movies, while Magneto is so damn great.

Can't wait for this...!

out of all the stuff they've released so far those posters are about the only thing that looks cool.  I really like the Magneto one, with the concentration camp in the background.  Xavier's poster screams 'I'm a fancy lad'.

it's in development.  hopefully they decide to jettison the abomination they made him in Wolverine and go with the traditional comic book version.
