Blast Chiller is part of a new LG fridge. You put the beer (or soda or even wine) inside and it cools it at an accelrated rate, swirling the air so that it chills evenly. You can have a perfectly chilled beer in 5 minutes. 8 minutes for two or a bottle of wine. It won Best of Innovations at CES this year.

I'll have to first prove our fridge is broken before being able to replace it. Maybe my wife will fall for this.

Our fridge also has a rapid-chill compartment. It's called the "freezer". I haven't drunk a warm beer since I learned how to use it.

Your freezer makes your beer ice cold in five minutes? I'm thinking your fridge has a chill compartment.

Why is it that beer is terrible poured over ice? It clearly works for other kinds of alcohol--I've even seen people do it with white wine.

Your freezer makes your beer ice cold in five minutes? I'm thinking your fridge has a chill compartment. The freezer will take a beer from room temp to pleasingly cold in 15 minutes. Good enough for me. If I were on the market for a new fridge, though, the rapid chill feature would be a selling point.

The problem with the freezer is that a quick freeze results in your bottle/can being very cold on the outside, but not cold enough on the inside. From the way I understand it this Blast Chiller thing will chill your drink more evenly (and faster). There's also the issue of forgetting that your drink is in the freezer, which can have disastrous results. I know it's happened to me several times.

I've tried the freezer multiple times, and even after 20 minutes, it's just not cold enough. But if you forget...kaboom.

as a certified beer snob (TM) i find it shocking and appalling that you dont already have more cooling chambers for your (always ultra fresh!) pale ales than for food
also, an extensive cellaring space for that "just perfect" 55 - 60 degree in hand imperial stout right when you need it

I do have a downstairs fridge with beer, but there are still times when people come over and bring a six pack. It's rude not to start with that. Plus there are the times when I get one that I really want to try right then.

as a beer snob, i spend the first 15 minutes deriding the choice of six pack selected by said guest, NO MATTER WHAT IT IS. i list no fewer than 4 choices that would have been better, at least one of which must be impossible to locate in the same hemisphere as our current location.
no im kidding about both the above and my snobbery
