Who's in? I'm all about the 5 disc CE. I can't think of another time where I've seen a WORKPRINT get released to the public (or at least on purpose). I've waited through all of the different versions of the movie for this one and it looks like it'll be the one to get! I'm more than a little excited.... Blade Runner: The Final Cut, spectacularly restored and remastered from original elements and scanned at 4K resolution, will contain never-before-seen added/extended scenes, added lines, new and improved special effects, director and filmmaker commentary, an all-new 5.1 Dolby® Digital audio track and more. Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Edward James Olmos, Joanna Cassidy, Sean Young, and Daryl Hannah are among some 80 stars, filmmakers and others who participate in the extensive bonus features. Among the bonus material highlights is Dangerous Days, a brand new, three-and-a-half-hour documentary by award-winning DVD producer Charles de Lauzirika, with an extensive look into every aspect of the film: its literary genesis, its challenging production and its controversial legacy. The definitive documentary to accompany the definitive film version. Disc OneRIDLEY SCOTT'S ALL-NEW "FINAL CUT" VERSION OF THE FILM Restored and remastered with added & extended scenes, added lines, new and cleaner special effects and all new 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio. Also includes: * Commentary by Ridley Scott * Commentary by executive producer/co-screenwriter Hampton Fancher and co-screenwriter David Peoples; producer Michael Deely and production executive Katherine Haber * Commentary by visual futurist Syd Mead; production designer Lawrence G. Paull, art director David L. Snyder and special photographic effects supervisors Douglas Trumbull, Richard Yuricich and David Dryer Disc TwoDOCUMENTARY DANGEROUS DAYS: MAKING BLADE RUNNER A feature-length authoritative documentary revealing all the elements that shaped this hugely influential cinema landmark. Cast, crew, critics and colleagues give a behind-the-scenes, in-depth look at the film -- from its literary roots and inception through casting, production, visuals and special effects to its controversial legacy and place in Hollywood history. Disc Three1982 THEATRICAL VERSION This is the version that introduced U.S. movie-going audiences to a revolutionary film with a new and excitingly provocative vision of the near-future. It contains Deckard/Harrison Ford's character narration and has Deckard and Rachel's (Sean Young) "happy ending" escape scene. 1982 INTERNATIONAL VERSION Also used on U.S. home video, laserdisc and cable releases up to 1992. This version is not rated, and contains some extended action scenes in contrast to the Theatrical Version. 1992 DIRECTOR'S CUT The Director's Cut omits Deckard's voiceover narration and removes the "happy ending" finale. It adds the famously-controversial "unicorn" sequence, a vision that Deckard has which suggests that he, too, may be a replicant. Disc FourBONUS DISC - "Enhancement Archive": 90 minutes of deleted footage and rare or never-before-seen items in featurettes and galleries that cover the film's amazing history, production teams, special effects, impact on society, promotional trailers, TV spots, and much more. * Featurette "The Electric Dreamer: Remembering Philip K. Dick" * Featurette "Sacrificial Sheep: The Novel vs. The Film" * Philip K. Dick: The Blade Runner Interviews (audio) * Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep Cover Gallery (images) * The Art of Blade Runner (image galleries) * Featurette "Signs of the Times: Graphic Design" * Featurette "Fashion Forward: Wardrobe & Styling" * Screen Tests: Rachel & Pris * Featurette "The Light That Burns: Remembering Jordan Cronenweth" * Unit photography gallery * Deleted and alternate scenes * 1982 promotional featurettes * Trailers and TV spots * Featurette "Promoting Dystopia: Rendering the Poster Art" * Marketing and merchandise gallery (images) * Featurette "Deck-A-Rep: The True Nature of Rick Deckard" * Featurette "--Nexus Generation: Fans & Filmmakers" Disc FiveWORKPRINT VERSION This rare version of the film is considered by some to be the most radically different of all the Blade Runner cuts. It includes an altered opening scene, no Deckard narration until the final scenes, no "unicorn" sequence, no Deckard/Rachel "happy ending," altered lines between Batty (Rutger Hauer) and his creator Tyrell (Joe Turkell), alternate music and much more. Also includes: * Commentary by Paul M. Sammon, author of Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner * Featurette "All Our Variant Futures: From Workprint to Final Cut" Product DescriptionVisually spectacular, intensely action-packed and powerfully prophetic since its debut, Blade Runner returns in Ridley Scott's definitive Final Cut, including extended scenes and never-before-seen special effects, now seen in sepcatacular hi-definition! In a signature role as 21st- century detective Rick Deckard, Harrison Ford brings his masculine-yet- vulnerable presence to this stylish noir thriller. In a future of high- tech possibility soured by urban and social decay, Deckard hunts for fugitive, muderous replicants - and is drawn to a mystery woman whose secrets may undermine his soul. This spectacular 5-Disc Set features all of the content of the standard definition Ultimate Collector's Edition. All five version of the legendary Sci-Fi film from Director Ridley Scott with all new 5.1 audio - the definitive Final Cut, three additional versions of the film, and the rare Work Print version - in addition to the in-depth feature length documentary "Dangerous Days", and one complete disc of bonus content including over 80-minutes of never- before-seen deleted scenes.

Didn't you already start a thread just like this? No. Actually you've created two. Could you be any more excited? I have to say- even as someone who just doesn't get BR- that case set up is pretty sweet.

I read a bit on this last week. Sounds like they just altered some stuff (little mistakes here and there) for the most part.
One thing I'm not sure about was changing the line to "I want more life, father". Probably because "I want more life, fucker" was one of my favorite movie lines.

Added that to the list too. I'm a huge fan of the movie though, so I have to have that 5th Workprint disc. Call me crazy.... Edit: Wow - didn't realize they didn't release the 5th disc unless you sprang for the big box or one of the two Hi-Def formats. Bleh.

I'm planning on picking up the 5 disc HD regular set after the holidays. I'm not a huge Blade Runner fan but I like the film and I am excited to see it in high-def.

"RIDLEY SCOTT'S ALL-NEW "FINAL CUT" VERSION OF THE FILM"
Is this now considered THE official version that the director intended the film to be?

Contrary to it's name, Scott wasn't involved in the early 90's "director's cut" though he did basically approve of it retroactively. So this is the first time Scott has officially gone back to recut the film.

If I've only seen a version where there's a voiceover, which version have I seen?
I never dug enough to figure it out.
I'll be getting this anyway, but probably not until after Christmas.

damn good price. linkage for the lazy? nuts to me. re the briefcase versions. "Production Delay: Due to production and shipment delays from the studio impacting all retailers, this title will not be available to ship by the street date indicated above. We are working with the studio to get this product in stock as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience." and the BR non briefcase version is out of stock.

The original theatrical version had the voice over. It was added to make it more accessible. I think it was forced by the studio and Scott nor Ford really wanted it. The story is that Ford did it as monotone as possible in an attempt to make it unusable but the studio forced it in anyway.

Yeah, it was a good price, back in August when I made the pre-order on WB's website. Deal's been expired for a good couple of months now, unfortunately.

Put in and order for the briefcase HD DVD version last week along with the Harry Potter set on HD from the WB store with a 25% off/free shipping code. Hasn't shipped out yet.
Of course, it's not a big deal, because my 360-cum-HD DVD player went RROD last Friday, so I won't be watching either of those until I get it back. Now it's a race to see which I get first!

No new HD format here so I ended up with the 4 disk regular DVD version. Even then it looked damn nice on my high def TV. $23 for that set is a no brainer for anyone who is a fan of the movie. And as KD says, all the reports are that the HD versions are well worth it.

The HD Digest review makes me very anxious to get my copy. It also makes me sad that I'm waiting for my 360 to be fixed to watch it. After hearing what a huge improvement the HD version is, I'm actually kind of glad I didn't go see it in the arthouse theater it was running in a month ago. It's a travesty, I know, but it's been years since I've seen it (I was always holding off on buying it on DVD waiting for this release, so my last copy was on VHS), and I wanted that viewing to be the ultra-pretty version. Looks like I'm getting that. Blade Runner screening party as soon as I get the 360 back!

I don't think the 5 disc Blu Ray version was released in the UK(we can import from the U.S on Amazon),which means my current 5 disc DVD set is better than the current 2 disc Blu-Ray that WAS released(well, not picture wise i would think)
but i am still very happy with the 5 disc DVD set,so i may give this a miss also,or maybe wait until its cheaper

The non-narrated Director's Cut is so bland, why would I ever want to watch that again? It is like a darn sleeping pill.
Give me the Decker narrated version every time, so I am not watching ships fly around to buildings with zero explanation over and over and over again.
The book sure as hell is not as boring as the Director's Cut.

This is the Final Cut,it came out 2007 whereas the Directors Cut was released in 1992,but yeah it still doesn't have the voice overs(i am not sure whether they were popular or not) I haven't watched the originals for awhile, but i remember it tried to be a Philip Marlowe(or Sam Spade) type thing with those voice overs...but i kept thinking of Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid

The non-narrated Director's Cut is so bland, why would I ever want to watch that again? It is like a darn sleeping pill.

The mind boggles.

I'm sure I'll lose what little geek cred I have by saying this, but...I've never watched Blade Runner in it's entirety. I've actually started watching it on 3 different occasions now, and either got bored or distracted each time. Made it about an hour in last time but had to shut it off because I was watching it on my iPad on a plane and didn't realize there were boobs. The 6 year old sitting next to me got quite the eyeful before I could hit the home button. One of these days I'll need to sit through the entire thing just to say I've seen it. Give me the Decker narrated version every time, so I am not watching ships fly around to buildings with zero explanation over and over and over again. I apparently saw the non-narrated version because my God it was dull (and made little sense).

I apparently saw the non-narrated version because my God it was dull (and made little sense). What the heck is this? How can people understand other movies but fail to understand Blade Runner? It's a really straightforward movie with a complex theme (which you frankly don't have to understand to see what's going on), nothing else. The movie was never made for narration. Harrison Ford was forced to shoehorn in narration (which he tried to sabotage by doing a deliberately crappy performance, allegedly), and they even tacked on a happy ending which ruined the entire movie's theme. Do we really want to be the lowest common denominator?

Put me in the 'confused anyone found this boring' camp. The non-narrated movie just OOOZES atmosphere and flows very well.

I only have the DVD Final Cut, but its a damn good SDVD quality-wise and looks great upscaled, so I doubt I'll upgrade. The artbook would be nice, but my current copy is sitting on my shelves sandwiched between my 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep' graphic novel volumes, so I'm not exactly lacking for inspirational art from the setting.
