yep, right here in my hometown.   been a freakin circus during the trial and sentencing.

check out this article from our local paper on his character witnesses  http://www.ocala.com/article/20080424/NEWS/804240330/1025

my favorite quote is from Woody Harrelson.....

Actor Woody Harrelson has also known Snipes for more than two decades. He praised Snipes for helping defuse a tense racial situation with Harrelson and much of the black cast on the set of the movie "Wildcats."

"Wes took the time to discuss and dissect the issue of racism. ... He strives for rightness in all his relations and I realized early on what a true citizen of the world Wes is. ... it is an honor to call Wes my brother."

Harrelson then paused, lit a doobie, stripped naked and streaked the hallway outside the courtroom.

Filmmaking is vision plus faith plus balls, all 3 of which Hollywood knows little about.

Unfortunately for Snipes, it is impossible to be a citizen of the world, but rather he is a citizen of the United States and whether you like the laws or not you gotta follow em.

I like Wesley, but let's take a look at his quote:

Quote
Snipes read aloud from a prepared apology, calling his actions "costly mistakes" but never mentioning the word "taxes." He said he was the victim of crooked advisers, a liability of wealth and celebrity that attract "wolves and jackals like flies are attracted to meat."

"I am an idealistic, naive, passionate, truth-seeking, spiritually motivated artist, unschooled in the science of law and finance," Snipes said.

Come on, man. Anyone with a right mind knows they have to pay their taxes. He hasn't paid them since 1998! He stands to serve 3 years, btw.

I always liked him, but damn, Wesley.  How did you honestly see this one playing out?

I haven't been following this case, but doesn't he have an accountant to deal with his finances?
