My favorite advantage of this setup over the old is the ability to receive email notifications of replies to threads that you didn't start. Helps a lot when trying to keep track of conversations in several threads.

Other than the buttons (which, granted, there are a lot of them), a forum theme shouldn't take more than an hour or two. Or, you could do a gonegold version of the subSilver theme, just hacking the overall_header.tpl to add in the CG logo, in about 30 minutes.

Cool. I just installed another blank phpBB to dink around with creating a gonegold version of subSilver. If you need a place to test you theme, let me know, and you're welcome to play with the empty forum on my server. It's a slightly later version of phpBB, but to the best of my knowledge, it uses the same template system.

I like being able to jump from the reply acknowledgement screen directly back to the forum...gotten used to that on the CoH boards.
