So they paid money just so they could call that movie Battleship? Because I find it hard to believe they went to someone with the idea of writing a movie influenced by the boardgame and THAT is what came to mind.
Your boardgame doesn't have aliens in it? They are probably trying to tie in 2 games. Classic Battleship and the new one: Battleship: Galaxies, which is actually a pretty cool game. I have that one myself. |

This movie is gonna be a stank-bomb released in theaters come May. Thousands of people will suffocate in the mega-fart from studio execs that will blow from the screens. I've not seen such a cynical Hollywood blockbuster misfire attempt in my entire life. So many heads are gonna roll when this fails it ain't gonna be funny, but well-deserved.

Either Battleship and John Carter are going to finally Turn Taylor Kitsch into a Movie Star, or they're going to once and for all render him a Friday Night Lights trivia question.  Although I suppose an X-Men Gambit spinoff is his Plan B. Speaking of FNL trivia, director Peter Berg directed that, and the TV series' pilot. Although the only thing in his filmography that hints why he was given $200M for a "boardgame movie" is Hancock. I am surprised, even just based on the trailers, that Michael Bay isn't suing the movie's producers for Battleship's sheer, baldfaced Michael Bay-ness and Transformers-ness. Although Battleship screams "bad idea!" and "career killer!" to me, it's got an extremely prime early summer release date (May 18), and studios theoretically (see Green Lantern) don't give those slots out to a $200M production unless they're truly confident in it. As to whether opening 2 weeks after The Avengers and a week before Men In Black III ( http://www.movieinsider.com/movies/may/2012/) is a good idea, only time will tell... |

I'm definitely watching this on Netflix when it shows up, looks like a fun stupid action movie.
Anyone else think of Crysis 1 and 2 when they saw the trailer and the Alien power suits?
I suspect any movie based on that series would share a lot of similarities with this one.
