I didn't realize Bruce Timm (lead guy behind the great animated TV stuff) was behind this:
Batman: Year One Interview With Producer Bruce Timm, Director Lauren Montgomery, and Screen Writer Tab Murphyhttp://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/GraphicCity/news/?a=40758He said they'd like to try do one of the books as an R-rated animated production, but their most recent talks on that fell through. It's interesting at the end Timm sort of blows them off when they ask which book they'd like to do as an R-film (probably doesn't want to reveal that unless they really get permission to do it).
As for Conroy, I adore his voice but he's 56 years old now. Asking him to voice-act a young (this is "Year One" afterall) Batman, seems a bit much.
If they try to do The Dark Knight Returns later, then I think he's perfect for that. In fact, sort of like Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven, he would've "aged" perfectly into the role.
Conroy's still doing work in games and such, and talking about Batman at conventions.
