Give me the dark, brooding, out for vengeance Batman over the campy Holy Cow Batman anyday.

The trailer looks like this one has promise.  I can only cross my fingers and hope after the mangling of the franchise by Joel Schumacher.  Christian Bale looks to be a perfect choice to play Bats.  The Batmobile looks questionable, but it's passable.  Maybe THE summer movie next year?  I can't wait!

The teaser is here.

I really like the logo!

But...what in the hell is going on in that trailer?  It looks like a cross between Bales' "Reign of Fire" and "The Golden Child."

I agree with KD on his checklist and love the idea of a darker Dark Knight Batman, but I don't know who the villian is!  Please inlighten me.

Well, this is the beginning of Batman, so it happens even before the 1989 movie.  Scarecrow and Ra's Al Ghul are the villians in this one.  I personally think the latter one could probably be enough for a movie, especially with Ken Watanabe as the character.

Scarecrow will be interesting, but I hope they flesh things out a bit if they're going the 2 villian route.

And there are some Bat villians left:

Mad Hatter
Killer Croc
Clayface
Scarface
Dr. Hugo Strange

They could also revisit ones like:

Bane (he was underused in the crappy Batman and Robin)
Riddler (he's not dead)
Two-Face (is he dead or was that a double?)
Joker (same as above)

The villains are The Scarecrow and Ra's Al-Ghul. Gary Oldman as Gordon is perfect casting. Throw in Michael Caine as Alfred and as noted Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne and I'm there. It looks like they went back to the old "Batman: Year 1" original stories to re, ahem, vamp, the series and start over. If they remember that solid characters and NOT neon and over-the-top villains are the key to an enduring series, then it might just last. Batman is foremost a detective, then an ass-kicker second.

I'd seen the trailer before The Village, but had no idea who the villains were. Those are pretty interesting choices.

I had hopes for a single-villain story, but I'll hold out and keep positive about it, as Scarecrow could be very interesting.

I'd love to see them tackle Clayface in the next one. He's actually my favorite batman villain.
