That said - I love my rooted Nook Color (even though I've had to replace the built in Nook reader with the downloaded one - yeah, I can't read magazines or animated books anymore, but it has better functionality - go figure) and am SO glad I bought one when I did.
Which Reader are you using? I really like the stock Nook Color reader.

I've got CM7 rooted to an SD and it works..ok. I haven't OCd yet because I crashed when I tried. Can you link where you got your OC module from?

I'm using the phone based Nook program. Technically it's the stock reader, and it scales just fine to the NC's screen size. And I'm not OCing at all. Don't see a need to do so unless I'm using the more tablet based functions.

An aside, when you're airline traveling with these e-reader things, do you have to yank them out and put 'em in a bin for scanning as you do with laptops and tablets? I assume so, just wasn't sure with something as relatively tiny as the Nook.

No actually.  The TSA has decided that iPads and e-readers do not have to be taken out of your bag.  I have found they open my bag more often now that I did prior to lugging the iPad around (25% of the time), but it hasn't been a huge issue.

They do ask that you not use the devices during takeoff and landing though, which is in my opinion the only downside of e-readers vs physical books.

Well, I guess if Microsoft can fold in e-books into their Marketplace that makes sense since they've already got digital games, music and movies.  Not to mention MS's inevitable Windows 8 tablets.

BTW, I still use my Zune HD in my car to this day, and it's a nice damn MP3 player.  Too bad it was basically abandoned after shipping.

I see this as good news for Nook owners.  This gives B&N the financial clout to compete with Amazon and Apple in the e-reading arena.

The Nook touch with backlight seemed to be announced very quietly. I thought that was a nice improvement on the Kindle touch.

Looks like Barnes & Noble is circling the drain, with Microsoft a possible Nook rescuer...

Chief Leaves Barnes & Noble After Losses on E-Readers
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/09/business/barnes-nobles-chief-executive-resigns.html?_r=1&
Quote
William Lynch Jr., the chief executive of Barnes & Noble, resigned on Monday, two weeks after a devastating earnings report that accentuated the bookseller’s losing battle against powerful rivals like Amazon.

Mr. Lynch’s departure was part of a series of sweeping changes the company announced as it tries to regain its footing after a failed initiative to build up its Nook division and compete in the increasingly crowded market for e-readers. When it revealed its fourth-quarter earnings late last month, Barnes & Noble said it would cease making its own color tablets, an acknowledgment that they were lagging popular brands like Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Apple’s iPad.

Instead, the company said it would form partnerships with third parties to make the color devices, while it continued to make and sell its own black-and-white versions of the Nook.
...
Microsoft is one potential buyer of the Nook business; last year it invested hundreds of millions of dollars to acquire 17.6 percent of the division.
Yeah I know, get your New ZuneTM jokes ready...
