Automobile Painting

I'm getting a new car and thinking about getting a custom color on it so it doesn't look the same as everyone elses, but I don't know much about getting a new paint job for a car.
How much does a "new car quality" paint job cost? It doesn't have to be a two toned, pin stripped beast, but just a nice solid color paint job like you would get with a new car.
Any advice would be great.

I'd guess at least $1000 for a quality paint job. I had the same thoughts as you when I was getting my new car a couple years ago, but the cost to have it done right was just too much for me.
