Friends, I'm thrilled to share this news with you today. As announced at Emerald City Comicon, where I'm appearing this weekend, Paramount Pictures has green-lit a new Star Trek Movie entitled "Excelsior" in which I will play the captain. This announcement is part of Paramount Studio's 100th-year anniversary campaign. The studio has acknowledged the fan enthusiasm for this concept ever since I appeared in command of the vessel in "The Undiscovered Country." J.J. Abrams will direct, with Robert Orci again writing the screenplay.
 
My co-star in Allegiance, Paulo Montalban, has been cast opposite me to play the mercurial "Agha," the grandson of Khan (played by Ricardo Montalban in the Second Star Trek Movie). Also featured are Gilbert Gottfried (playing a wily Ferengi First Officer) and Lisa Lampanelli (as a Bajoran security officer).

I ended up using the Smoove_B's Pirate Resignation letter. Each April Fools I think of sending it off, chicken out, then regret it as its such a neat joke. However the last few years I've gotten to know my most recent boss a bit better and he has a good sense of humor and always has my back. So with a little trepidation I sent the letter this morning. To my surprise my boss sent an equally great response!

So here is the Smoove_B's original fantastic Pirate Registation Letter and my bosses response to that letter (with some edits to protect anonymity):

Dear Eric:

After an appropriate period of deliberation, I have come to the decision to tender my resignation from XXXX, effective April 1, 2012.

Please know that I still maintain a high level of respect for you as a manager and supervisor, and I thank you sincerely for the support and assistance you have offered me in each of those roles. I have been proud to work for XXXX over the past eleven years; it has been a journey that has provided me an unparalleled foundation to move forward to new and exciting opportunities.

As such, I have decided to become a professional pirate. It has always been a dream of mine to live the life of a swashbuckling corsair, beholden to none and master of all I survey. Once my crew of unabashed rogues is assembled, we shall take to the capacious expanse of the high seas to pursue fortune, fame, and hair-raising adventure.

Our path may not be filled with the porcine comforts and technological marvels that XXXX provides, but we shall nonetheless move forward to carve a name for ourselves in the annals of bold insurgency and death-defying derring-do. Once I have a keen blade at my hip and the Jolly Roger is flapping high above me, I believe I will find my true calling.

Please note that I am currently accepting applications for First Officer, if you are at all interested in applying. I will provide a full medical and dental plan, which will offer immediate coverage of all maladies other than scurvy and the occasional bout of rickets.

It is with sadness that I accept your resignation. You have been a model employee, responsible, talented, and a pleasure to work with, and you will be very missed by me and your colleagues. I have let HR know to take you off the payroll.

By the way, I think you will make a fine Captain Corsair, and I also find your offer intriguing as I have very often thought about a life of piracy; I even purchased the full scale plans from Popular Mechanics to build my own pirate vessel complete with plank and gallows and a functional crow’s nest. Up until now though I have only considered this a dream yet to be fulfilled. I am now seriously asking myself if I can share that dream and serve as a proper first officer in hopes of gaining experience and ultimately one day have a command of my own vessel and motley band of seafaring hooligans. My one question though, while the medical and dental are very generous will you be offering any training? My sword play is quite good, I have an eye patch, and I know how to bury treasure (and find it again), but my experience pillaging and plundering villages and other ships is not extensive; I could defiantly use some pointers and some practical exercises in this respect.

Let me know, and I think I am ready to accept your offer of employment as your first officer. Where do I sign in blood?
