Saw this from a link on Bluesnews.  Pay 5 dollars to get into the store and look at things.  Apparently there have been such large crowds wanting to see the iphone etc. that they needed a way to cut the size down.

There's a lot of room for jokes, but at the same time, I can sympathize with the business owners not wanting people who have no intention of spending money keeping paying customers from being able to get into the store.

But the jokes....

Apple is all about the Bennys.  This is hardly surprising.

That's pretty amazing.  The cojones it takes to charge admission to your store.  I can understand wanting to keep crowds under control, but there's ways of doing that without coming off like a bunch of elitist pricks.

Quote
"Part of the move was to limit crowds to keep the stores safe, but also we wanted to keep the right kind of people in the stores," said vice president of retail outlets, Vince Sciopiano.  "By 'right kind of people' I mean true Apple customers with money, willing to pay just to look at our newest wares."

I honestly can't believe I'm planning on buying an iMac from these people.  I'm only doing it because I need to learn Final Cut to try and get into the editing business (which is something else that bugs me), but man, I feel really dirty doing it.

If I come wearing a goatee and a superior expression, will they cut it to $2?

You will if you add a turtle neck or a Beret; an ascot may net you another dollar off.

Hmmm... should I get lunch, or go see a 24 inch iMac and be greated by an annoying Chad or Stacy?

If you buy something does your admission fee get applied to the cost of the item?

Saw the article... yes it does.

Still ridiculous.

Read the article closely:

http://www.bbspot.com/News/2007/07/apple-store-to-being-charging-entrance-fee.html

This has to be a joke.  Where the guy says "it's like they want to be elite snobs or something"
and they say the Apple manager says "That's exactly the case."   I don't care what inane policy
they're following, I don't think any manager would admit to that in an article for publication. This
smells of a joke or hoax.

Entirely possible it's a joke... I didn't do any real research... was just amused by the title of the link/article.

BBSpot is a tech humor site in the vein of the Onion.  Sometimes they have Top 11 lists.  (I remember posting one about uses for a GameCube that some people got annoyed at...whatever.)  Anyway, I highly doubt that this is real.

Well played by them.  Fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

Of course, part of that is because it sounds exactly like something that Apple would do, which is exactly what makes it such brilliant satire.  Good show, boys.

That is what is sad about it LOL.  It is easy to fall for this one because who didn't actually think that yea sounds like typical Apple.  I'm not a Mac hater by any means but do get tired of the smug attitude that some Mac users have toward people who don't use them.  We had a guy at work that was one of these guys and he would always say something to the effect of hey we have 8% market share now!  Never understood the pride in 8% or whatever number it was but hey he was happy.  icon_biggrin

Sadly, I don't own a beret, nor do I even know what an ascot is. Is it like a chinchilla? A lemur? or should I be thinking more legs...
