Im not surprised, the last few photos of him looked pretty bad.  RIP.    Im not an Apple fan boy but I acknowledge his contributions to the advancement of several every day technologies.

He has certainly shaped more of our technology culture than anyone I can think of.   He will be sorely missed.

Had a ][e as a child and have stuck with Apple ever since. I've only ever seen Steve as a guy who wanted to make cool stuff and I think he accomplished that in spades. He'll be missed.

I had an Apple 2e back in the mid-80s and loved it (mostly for the games).  After that, I pretty much abandoned Apple products in favor of the PC world until 2 years ago when I got my first Ipod Touch, which I love (mostly for the games).  RIP.

It's sad. Tim Cook's fine (and he's credited with teaching Jobs about manufacturing's ins and outs), but it was pretty clear yesterday he doesn't have Jobs' ability to charm an audience, to "make you want something you didn't know you needed," as I've seen mentioned in some obit pieces on him.

I almost wonder if a healthy Jobs presenting yesterday might've actually made yesterday's announcement come off as a grand thing rather than an "OK upgrade" that has provoked all this hand-wringing on various news sites.

The only thing that bothers me about some of the TV news obits is they make it seem like Jobs invented/created all these products by himself, like he was some mad professor in a workshop who had no help at all. In interviews, he talked about surrounding himself with great people and how that would "lift you up," and I think he'd find it a bit of a shame these obits make it seem like those great people around him had nothing to do with all these signature products.

I'm typing this from the coolest piece of technology that I've ever used, the iPad 2. I thank you mr. Jobs for all of the cool stuff. I wonder if Mr. Gates will attend his funeral. They were friends right?

From Bill Gates http://www.thegatesnotes.com/Personal/Steve-Jobs:

Quote
Iím truly saddened to learn of Steve Jobsí death. Melinda and I extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends, and to everyone Steve has touched through his work.

Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives.

The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come.

For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, itís been an insanely great honor.  I will miss Steve immensely.

So sad! He was a great man and such a visionary. I came to the Apple camp late in life but their products have done nothing but enhance my life. From my first iPod to my ipad 2 which is pretty much my 'blanky' I don't go anywhere without it.

My computer is a Mac, and has been for ten years. My phone is an iPhone. I use an iPad every day, and watch most programming over my Apple TV. I can't imagine a world where Steve Jobs didn't exist.

I don't want to picket their funeral. I want to dance on their grave. I want to.. put a piece of cardboard on their graves and breakdance on it.  nod

But, back to Steve Jobs RIP.

http://9to5mac.com/2011/10/06/people-reach-for-steve-jobs-bio-in-large-numbers-author-knew-illness-was-terminal/

The official bio release got moved up to 10/24

Quote
According to a person familiar with the matter, Isaacson last interviewed Jobs four weeks ago, right before, and right after he stepped down from his post as the CEO of Apple. Jobs indicated at that time that he knew he was going to die soon. The scene will appear at the end of the book.

Spoiler for Hiden:

Yeah, I knew the 4s was a flop and leave it to Jobs to make an extremist reaction.

My first reaction was "Damn why wasn't it George Lucas?". My second thought was "Good Riddance. Maybe apple will stop hating us now." One can only hope.
