I'm curious to see if anyone bought a Zune yesterday. How do you like it? I must say, it looks pretty cool with a larger screen than the iPod and Vision:M. Actually, that's about the only thing that has me thinking about getting one over a Vision:M. The WiFi thing seems pretty lame, limiting the songs to 3 plays or 3 days... even if it is not a DRM'd song. And now the Vision:M is going for $230 or less, I'm getting tempted to go that route.

Anyone, I'd love to hear impressions about this Zune thing, or whatever your current 30GB+ player is!

I picked one up today. It's very slightly bigger than the 30gb Ipod video, but the screen is much bigger. Video looks pretty good on it, and the zune software is very itunes-ish, so if you've used one it shouldn't be too hard to pick up the other. The included FM radio is a nice addition. The only thing I'm not seeing yet is podcasting support...but that may be coming down the line yet.

I'm an iPod guy, so up front I will admit my bias, but I have almost no interest in the Zune. It looks VERY fragile, and I use my iPod for working out, so I need something sturdy (even though I am very careful). Plus, it's pricey and can't play .AAC files, which 90% of my music is encoded in, so it would foul up my ability to play prepurchased music from iTunes. I also have no interest in doing video on a portable player, so thats a non issue for me.

I likely won't get one, but one point of interest is something MS is working on for Media Center: it will let you stream your recordings via the internet to any Windows platform, including Windows Mobile devices.  I believe there is also a way to remotely program, but I haven't tinkered around with any of it just yet.

Test drove one at Best Buy today-

+Scratch and smudge resistant body.  (my biggest pet peeve of the ipod and Zen)
+Large screen size
+Intuitive navigation
+Solid construction

-Screen is slightly muddier than the ipod or Zen
-does not natively support Divx or Xvid

I'm probably buying one soon along with this case:

I have an iPod that works fine, so I really don't see the need to pick up a Zune right now.  Once it dies though, I may look into getting one depending on what's available.

Thanks for your impressions, everyone. I dunno, so many players now. The Archos ones (404, 604) look pretty nice, too... and with bigger screens (though maybe a little more massive). I'm still leaning toward the Creative Zen, with its better codec support and more options. Sometimes it's hard not to get caught up in tech release frenzy.

I picked one up recently and wrote up some impressions of it.

I love the thing and really don't understand the strong bias against it.

Can you stream files to it from Meda Center (or WMP11)?

Not terribly interested for one single reason: it does not integrate with my stuff nearly as well as the iPod does.  I really wanted a non iPod mp3 player, but when it came down to it, the ability to plug it into my car stereo and use the controls on the stereo won me over.
