Knightshade, my apologies if this is too intruisive.  There are questions here, and I can't seem to answer email on the subject fast enough.  If this post is a problem, please let me know and I'll remove it.  If not, well I'm about to tell everyone what I know.

1) Which is very little.  The site is down.  I'm working under the assumption that this is a technical issue.  

2) Forum staff have been given no information that would remotely indicate the plug might/was about to be pulled.

3) I've contacted the powers that be.  When I hear from them, hopefully I can provide some better information.  As of yet, I have nothing.

Remember that the powers that be inhabit the same universe that we do.  Meaning, they get busy, have things that sometimes take precedent over Gonegold, etc.  I'm sure I will hear from someone as soon as possible.

I certainly hope it's just a technical problem.  No matter how much people say it has changed, it's still the *best* forum I've ever been a part of.  Even though there were still the occasional troll and arguements, it was still the most civil gaming forum I had ever visited.


If GG is truly gone, I hope CG (Or whatever takes GG's place) can become as great as GG is/was.

No one knows me because I mostly lurked on GoneGold for a few years but I already miss going there to read what people are talking about.  I hope GoneGold comes back but I also hope to meet some people here and possibly participate more.

It crossed my mind, Jeff, but since he probably doesn't know me from a hole in the wall, I wasn't sure if it would be rude of me to do it.  

To think he wasn't working on the site on purpose (was it Andy or Simon that said some facsimile of that?) awhile back, some comments by Rich about the support that Bill Harris had been even though Rich didn't want to deal with things in general and then the last post he made about the sad news of his dog, I too was/am a bit concerned.

Given all that, I decided that perhaps it'd be a better idea for someone who at least knows him a little bit to make that first call.

Didn't know Andy had left recently - I thought he was going to change the front page when he got back from vacation(trip/something else?).

Just want to add in that you guys are more than welcome to start up PC game discussions in the General Forum or set up PC multiplayer games in the Multiplayer Forum.  Talk about CS: Source or any other games that have caught your whimsy.  All "Road to Gold" stuff also goes into the General forum as well instead of being split.  We want you guys to feel at home while we all try to figure out exactly what happened to GG and morph our forums from there if need be.

Another refugee from Gone Gold here.  As slow as the site has been running the past week I was wondering this was going to happen.

I would like to throw in a vote as well to the good guys here at ConsoleGold to put up some PC fourm spots for us.

I do play PS2 but am a PC gamer at heart.  This site does seem great though and will start coming here for my gold fix.

Actually, there's no shortage of PC love here for sure.  In fact, my poor x-box has been feeling neglected as of late with games like Doom3, WoW, and Kohan 2 finding their way onto my hard drive.  In fact, I should have an informal review of Kohan 2 up in the forums sometime this weekend, and I wouldn't be too surprised to see more PC goodness on the horizon.  Heck, I myself wouldn't mind seeing a PC section on the main site, if  only just for the occasional review and such.

Might I suggest that if gonegold is gone, and if this forum becomes awash with boat people, and if some version of that subforum is considered, it be called Argument Clinic?

That would have been a better name for the R & P forum as it evolved.

Absence of religion and politics may make a forum a happier place, but their presence makes it a more interesting place.

Rumors aside, I can say for sure that while the gonegold.com DNS entries still live, the machine itself is either stealthily firewalled (unlikely), unreachable due to faulty network equipment (also unlikely) or powered off.

Hopefully, Stephen will investigate when he finds time and tell us what's happened.
