Hi guys. <--- Newbie - Posts: 1 This is so depressing. I was already having a really bad week as a PC gaming nut because my local Gamestop dismantled their PC section and stuck it on a tiny, pathetic metal rack in the middle of the store. When the store opened, they had all the PC game boxes right at the front when you walked in. Over the years, they moved the section into the back corner on 3 shelves, then 2, then 1. Tolerable since the boxes shrunk, but hardly desirable. Now, as of last week, I have to browse new PC games by their spines (ugh) and all the boxes are empty (double ugh). I bought Port Royale 2 (tons of fun by the way) and they made me wait like a shmuck while they went to the storage room and got the box contents and put them in then handed me a mangled box. It looked like they sliced open the plastic sticker on top with a rusty tuna can. I collect boxes! Meanwhile the walls of the store are filled with console games. Fucking used gameboy games are sitting where my new PC titles used to sit. So now, on that very same week, I (might have) lost my favorite PC gaming forum (I think I had in the neighborhood of 14,000 posts over there) and I'm forced to join... wait for it... CONSOLE Gold. Huge <sigh>. Really bad confluence of events. God knows I love console games, but they're a distant second to PC gaming which will always be #1 in my heart. If no good news surfaces re:GG and we all end up migrating over here, I guess I'll get used to it. But right now, I don't wanna. All I wanna do is whine and pout. On the plus side, it's good to have a new batch of smilies to work with. My favorite is this catbutt with dangly turd:  Also on the plus side, it's great to see Mr. Fed! Y'know, that sounds like the Gamestop where I was at the other day, except I couldn't find PC games -at all-. EB at least has about 12 feet of computer software available. Makes me wonder if it's a corporate thing with Gamestop, or if you're near where I am

I have 4 game stops within 15 minute drives and all of them ditched their pc games. Right after Max Payne 2 shipped as a remember. I was the last pc game they got in. They have none, and carry none. Their web site carries them and at the moment, they seem to have the best record of delivering new releases as soon as possible.

OK, we've got Triggercut, TScott, Morton and Capt. Caveman. That should ensure that I find out about every single decent album thatever gets released. I tried to calculate how much money I've spent on Triggercut's recommendations alone, and it was depressing. You owe me some serious money, man. I still wish Rumpy and Kelric show up to keep me informed about all things Celtic. I'd add T-Dub to that list (among others) and I've noticed he ain't here yet. I emailed him a couple hours ago but I'm not 100% sure the email address I had for him is still current. And I HEARD DAT on the Triggercut $$$. I think he should pay us back with an insider tip on a horse race so we can all win big. Speaking of winning big, I hit the new Borgata Casino in Atlantic City last weekend on a pre-fatherhood bachelor party for a friend expecting twins later this month. I was planning to gamble with $100 but I ended up losing that plus an extra $40 on the craps table. (First time playing craps. I had no idea what I was doing. Might as well have flushed my money down the toilet. It would have taken longer and been more fun to watch.) Then, hours later, I cheated and took out another $100 planning to place it all on one hand of blackjack and, win or lose, call it a night. My friend Mike caught me at the cash machine ($3 fees! WTF!) and after I told him the plan he got out his ATM card, drunkenly mentioned something about solidarity, and withdrew $100 to play on the same hand. Mike was already down $1,000 for the night. Side story: Mike had spent over $20,000 on an engagement ring just that morning which was very good/very bad timing for a trip to Atlantic City. He said the $1,000 he lost felt like just a drop in the bucket in comparison. After buying the ring, Mike had already had three beers and a quick visit to a Times Square strip club before we departed... at noon. So we placed our bets. The dealer threw us a king which we thought was pretty good but not as good as the ace that followed. We lit up like Christmas trees and took our $500 to the redemption window and felt much better about the whole evening. That put me at plus $10 for the night (WOO HOO!) which I took to the gift shop and spent on a pink stuffed sheep for Amelia.

It'll take some getting used to this place if this is the new "home" for us GG folk. I don't consider myself one of the well known names but I am comforted a bit by seeing all the familiar names that are over here.

This is incredibly morbid, but I spent a few minutes searching the obituaries over at indystar.com. As far as I can tell, they have no records of anyone named LaPorte dying since 1993. They may not have a comprehensive list, but it gives me a little hope that whatever's going on isn't as bad as I had feared.

I have room and bandwidth available on my hosting server. I'm hoping Stephen has the necessary authority to get the data from ev1 and move it over.
I doubt this could happen until the 15th given his other obligations. Rip, wasn't there at least a partial backup made of the GG content sometime back? Or did that ever make it past discussion? There was a backup made but it was a few month's ago. Just before Bill departed.

Amelia's got a pretty cool dad. Maybe next time he goes to AC, he'll win enough money to buy her a pony. A pink one, of course.

Hi all, here's another refugee washed ashore. At least now we can complete the unholy trinity of Ravens. Muhahahaha!
I wholeheartedly echo the sentiments of most everyone else here - sadness for the loss of GG (if permanent), best wishes for Rich, and gratitude to the CG staff and community for being so patient and understanding. Hopefully the GG community can live on, even if in another form.

I do wish I had the opportunity to rescue a handful of threads from Gone Gold. There are some that represented a lot of information. My Morrowind mod and Game Update threads, the Games Finished thread, a couple of others. I'd hate to lose those. If anybody has a recent backup of any of them, let us know.

To save the old threads...what about using google's web cache? It's usually up to date for the most part and goes back a while.

I really hope that it's not the end of GG. It's the only forum I've actively paticipated in this year, and it was a great source of information for little known PC games. I'm mainly a PC gamer, and although I enjoy playing the XBox, PC gaming is still my first love.

G'mornin', everybody. How are we all feeling today?
I registered a while ago but it's really cool to see everyone looking for each other, even if it is in a Romero zombie like way.
Anyone spoken with Bill? Perhaps he has some insight into the matter?

While I lament the death of GoneGold in total, I'm kicking myself for not keeping my own copy of my books read in 2004. It not only had the list of what I'd finished, but the list of what I was planning to read. Argh!

Ok, I'm back in the saddle. I've only read page 1 of this thread, so I need to catch up.
Let me state right now that we should still have all the relevant files. Worst case scenario is we have some backups that are a couple of months old (Julyish, I believe).
So, no matter what happens, all is very much not lost.

To save the old threads...what about using google's web cache? It's usually up to date for the most part and goes back a while. Fantastic idea. Unfortunately, it only seems to have saved the first page of the '800MB of Morrowind Goodness' thread, and I think I put the list on page 2 or 3. It didn't have anything more recent than February on the Books Read or Finished Games lists. The only full archive I found was from way back in January.[/url]

Hi! I was Rashgallivak at GG but I doubt anyone remembers me. Well, sir, you're wrong. I remember you and I'm sure a lot of others do as well. Who could forget a name like Rashigavailaakak? (hehe, sorry, jk) Tals wrote: I've no intention of staying here to long - although I appretiate the mods for putting up with. anything other than PC gaming holds zero interest to me i'm afraid. Tals, don't leave man. You might've missed some posts by the mods here, but if it happens that GG is kaput, they've said that not only will they be adding a PC gaming forum for us, they're likely to broaden the scope of the entire site to include PC games. So like, don't leave, ok? How can you leave a site that's willing to ban DS on sight?

(Cross-posted for ease of use) Not to worry folks, the landscape will change and there will be a place for PC discussions and a place for console discussions. There are plans to ADD PC, not to let PC take over. I'll let a few cats out of the bag, all of which are based on GG not coming back of course: 1.) Expand the forums into pretty much what GG had and seperate PC and consoles. We need to evaluate some forums like R&P (it seems religion was the big offender for most people...maybe we trial run without religion?) 2.) Expand our backend database to encompass PC. (Have you guys looked at OUR Gold Guide?) Take a sample: http://www.consolegold.com/GameInfo/game/1352.html3.) (still in the thought bubble stage, need to discuss with Eldon) Work on filtering system to filter news for PC or the various consoles 4.) Hire staff to cover PC gaming news in a way it hasn't been covered on the front page of GG for a long long time. 5.) Restart PC reviews 6.) Restart PC previews If we do that, we'll have a lot of work ahead of us, but I think it'll pay off in the long run.

Has anyone seen BobM? I just emailed him. ...Unless he's going by a different username. (Which hopefully isn't the case. I only have enough room in my brain to remember one updated moniker and the artist formerly known as T-Dub has taken it already in a blatant display of hero worship.)
