Not that I could see - so I'm doing just what you described. Checking out the tastes of someone and then deciding whether to keep them or not. Surprisingly though I'm around 80% similiarity with several of the people ( Especially when you consider that I also rent movies for my daughter within my queue) |

Man cool, I am seeing a bunch of stuff that looks interesting after looking through my new Friends list! My Netflix Q is going to be at full capacity at this rate. Sure wish I had better taste in movies like all of you seem to have! No one has ever accused me of having good taste( or even much taste at all) when it comes to movies though. Heh what you guys get out of me may be less than what I get from yall. I'm trying to go back and re-review my ratings on my viewed movies to give a better idea about if the movie is actually good or not. It's subjective I know, but I see a pattern of me giving mostly 4 and 5 star ratings to everything it's not entirely the way I felt in some instances. For some weird reason, I feel a little bad rating something 1 or 2 stars. Hey at least it may help to get you guys to trust my recommendations a little more at least! |

Awesome tip! I was wondering how I was supposed to keep all you folks straight. I'm also curious as to how they do the similarity, as the only person showing up as > 80% on mine is Kirk (Fireball)... |

Perhaps Netflix is rating based on what percentage of your movies your friends "agree" with?
Example:
I've rated 1500 movies.
You've rated 250 movies.
Of the movies we've rated there's 200 that overlap with 150 of them matching exactly.
150 of 1500 = 10% compatability on my list
150 of 250 = 60% compatability on your list
I'm sure there's far more math involved, with weighting and stuff, but the basic premise might explain the discrepancies we're seeing.

The highest percentage on mine is CrayolaSmoker with 87%
The least is juniordan with a nice round 40%.
Pretty much everyone else is around 70%

I'm pretty much open to giving everything a chance so I am feeling overwhelmed at this point. A lot of stuff I am seeing from you guys looks pretty interesting. Oh, and BTW, I do have 3 queues that I use. Shad Price, Kim and Shad, and Kimberly Price. One is for me, one is for my wife, and one is for both of us. That way we get movies only we would like but we also make sure to rent movies that we both like too. I'm not sure why I am telling you guys this, but, I don't know if anyone else I added has multiple queues, so I don't really know if you guys see all of the movie choices and ratings or just the main queues. Dammit.. I just confused myself! |
