Sometimes I love their insight but the last run of "An Unbelievably Merch Christmas" is just dumb and worse not funny I mean what is that crap?

Penny Arcade's strength is when they talk about video games, especially new ones. Anything else is hit or miss.

I get the impression they're trying to create another FF2K with "The Merch". Unsuccessfully, I might add.

Really, I love PA, but the Merch thing should have been limited to the very first one. Though not original ("Remember to drink your ovaltine?!"), it was a funny view of the new era of marketing.

Penny Arcade's strength is when they talk about video games, especially new ones. Anything else is hit or miss. I think that is how I feel. I remember laughing at thier stuff when the Xbox first came out and the controller appeared so huge, and thier digs at Pokemon, but "I fucked your dad" is probably on my list of never funny punchlines.

I love PA so much, but Merch should have gone out with the first comic. This is not very funny to me.

Agreed they lost some of my respect with this recent series. But the Blizzard hiring Satan one still makes me howl to this day...

Being funny is hard. Being consistently funny is really, really hard. Being funny three times a week for 52 weeks a year is a job I don't envy. I think the Penny-Arcade guys achieve real humor more consistently than just about anyone out there - definitely more than any other regularly-updated web comic I've seen. Even more than some TV shows. Sure there are misses, but between Tycho's newsposts, which often border on sheer brilliance, and the comics themselves, I think PA is pretty damn good, and visit them daily.
Oh, and also, I fucked your dad

Yeah, see that comic is classic PA-hilarious stuff-and it makes sense. Merch requires a significant involvement to find the funny

It wasn't funny 'till I reread the original "The Merch" comic. Then it became amusing. But I can see how for somebody coming on it cold, or somebody without perfect recall, it's just odd and inappropriate. It was for me 'till I saw what begat it.

This is the PA strip that my brother, a non PA reader, found funniest: I was always partial to "Jesus is fucking metal," but your mileage may vary.

I actually picked up one of the Maverick's Tyco mentioned in the news post. This thing is seriously one of the most bad-ass Nerf guns I have ever seen. I feel like an extra in a cheap action/sci-fi movie using it.
