Sandman!

Definitely looks the part.  We should be in for some great sand effects.  Now who is Topher Grace gonna play?

I thought it was leaked a long time ago that he is Venom.

Damn.  He fills the visual part better than I expected.

Now, to see how they transform Topher Grace into Venom...

Which seems counter-productive after going through the trouble of setting up the astronaut backstory in Part II.  Perhaps the rumors and "slip" that told us Venom are false?  Electro and/or Mysterio would be a far better fit.

I had read in an interview that Sam Raimi does NOT like Venom, and pretty much said that Venom would never be in a Spiderman movie he directed.

Now it's possible he was just saying that.  I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Man I can't wait to see this movie, I loved the first two. Sam Raimi is a terrific director.

I remember hearing the same back when the first Spidey came out.  And being elated, as I was never a big fan of Venom myself.  But I don't think Raimi can hold out against studio and fan pressure forever.  And I wouldn't put it past Raimi to come up with what he considers a creative way to handle the origin and nature of Venom that makes him palatable enough to put him on the big screen.

If I'm not mistaken, Raimi is signed through this one and he's out.  Which leaves us with the possibility of three villains in Spiderman 3, as I seriously doubt he's going to leave the Osbourne angle alone for someone else to finish.  Perhaps Topher will be a scapegoat for Harry?  Or maybe he'll be Hobgoblin?  I'm worried that this film is going to take on far too much for one film and end up diluting all stories involved.  Unless one of the villains is a glorified cameo fight at the beginning of the film.  Which could be really, really cool.

Actually, I'd love to see Topher as Hobgoblin. Yeah, he's got a wicked mean madman smirk.

Mysterio and Sandman were always favorites of mine.  I would love to see either of those two make an appearance.

You know what? I've always loved Spiderman, but I don't think I've ever read a comic with Sandman in it. Seen him on the cartoons as I grew up, but I've never seen him on the pages. Truth be told, he kind of seems like a goofy baddie, but the fans really seem to like him. If the fans have faith, then so do I.
