PLEASE DON"T MAKE THIS ABOUT POLITICS
So i have been trying to go to the range for the past couple of weeks but every place I have tried is sold out of 9 mm ammo. Anyone else having this problem? Personally, I enjoy going to the range and never shoot more than 100 rounds.... but... I'm not about to blow through my hollow points at the range.
All I shoot is my springfield xd 9mm....

Are you saying the ranges are out of ammo? Or that all of the gun stores/hunting stores are out of 9mm ammo? Where are you?
Really if you are in an area that has a gun show come through town I would wait for that and get a shitload of cheap ammo like a couple thousand rounds if you are just shooting at the range. Save your good ammo for when you need it. That sort of thing.

Odd that this should come up today... I noticed an ad in our local paper from a local gun shop that said 'We how have .223, 9mm, etc. ... ammo'. I thought it was a strange ad, but maybe there is a shortage? People not making product that they think might be affected by the change in administration? Dunno... I just googled 'Ammo shortage' and got a ton of stuff... Ammunition suppliers say the shortage is due to several factors, including the sheer volume of ammunition heading overseas to fight wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But they also say the shortage — as well as a sharp rise in gun sales — coincided with the election of President Obama, fueled by fears his administration would usher in more restrictive gun laws.

all stores within a 45 min drive are out. 7 walmarts, bass pro hunting supply store and gun stores and pawn shops. I live in Springfield Missouri.

Apparently there is a shortage as well as prices going up. Guess I should keep up with ammo stuff more often. I would still say check if a gun show is coming through and give that shot if you get there early enough.

they've been running gun show ads about every 2 weeks around here, adding in 'get them while you still can!' at the end of each radio commercial.

I'm not quite sure how you can avoid a political discussion when the reason for the shortages is at least partially political.

Definitely not just you, I have been unable to find any 9mm or .45 for a couple of weeks now and when I do, most places are limiting people to one box per purchase. They had a special about this exact problem on 60 Minutes and it is apparently for the whole country.

I know my service’s supplier has been diverting most of their production to US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, so shipments to Canada have been reduced and/or delayed. Fortunately we’re now getting enough training rounds to practice, but our actual duty ammo is apparently in short supply. Most years we fire off all our regular duty ammo at the range and load up with new ammo, but we’ve been asked to hold off on that for a bit this year. It’s not too critical (not like ammo will go bad in a year), but I worry about the possibility of chambering the same round too many times. Edit: Oh, and it's .40 cal that we use

My wife works for the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife and she's mentioned that she's having a hard time getting ammunition for thier agents as well. Like Windows said, all the manufacturers are sending the majority of their stock to the sand pit for the troops. Thankfully I make my own reloads.

Isn't is more paranoia than political?

the ammo shortage was a big story in the tv news about 2 weeks ago. Was a big surprise to me. Who would think the USA would be short of ammo. Strange days.

Isn't is more paranoia than political? What makes you think there's a difference in this case?

well, paranoia assumes something will happen
while, political would assume something already has happened
at least in this case

As much as I would love to continue on this discussion, I don't want to hijack the smurfing thread.
