Just got to praise Amazon.com right now.. My wife bought an HD-DVD drive for my Xbox-360 through Amazon last year. This morning we got this email from Amazon. Amazon.com Special Offer: $50 Off a Future Purchase Dear Amazon.com Customer, As someone who purchased an HD DVD player from us before February 23, 2008,* you might like to hear about a special offer available from Amazon.com.
New technologies don't always work out as planned. We at Amazon.com value our customer relationships more than anything and would like to support customers who purchased these players by offering a credit good for $50 off any products sold by Amazon.com. The rest of the email just gave specifics on how to use it - good for anything that Amazon sells (just nothing offered through a 3rd party reseller on Amazon). Who says great customer service is dead?

Best Buy is doing something similar in that they are sending anyone who bought an HD-DVD player a $50 gift card. Not too shabby.

Got the XBox addon for Christmas last year and no email either. I'm all for a free $50, though.

I got an A3 in January. Wonder if I'll be getting a credit. That would be pretty awesome.

After a little googling, I found a suggestion to visit this link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/pricing-and-promotions.html#csTop...and request the refund there. Click on the email tab and include your order number. Amazon got back to me in a couple of hours saying the refund had been credited to my account. Got a free copy of Mass Effect PC

Did the same thing, and had my email with a code in about two hours. Now I have to decide if I'd rather order most of the Walking Dead trades, or Persona 3 FES and something else. Or just hold it until I get a PS3 and there's a good BR sale.

I bought mine through them and didn't get this email I never did, either. I wrote them instead, and already spent my $50 credit. Go do what Laner said. Worked for me.

I just sent out my e-mail. I'll keep my fingers crossed that Amazon does me a solid. I think the promotion was limited to purchases within a very specific time frame. I purchased my player at the end of August, so I may not qualify.
Can't hurt to try.

I think it was any HD DVD player bought before the announcement, so I bet you'll get your certificate.

You're correct! Thanks for the initial notification DarkEL. Customer Service just activated my credit!

I purchased a "backup" HD-A3 to replace my original HD-A1 as soon as the price fell to $99 on Amazon. I wanted to make sure I had an extra once the hardware was no longer available. So I was pretty lucky, as I got the Amazon email AND a gift card from BB for the original unit, completely out of the blue for me. So between the 2 $50 bonuses, I essentially got the second unit for free. Even as a stand-alone DVD upconvert player, the picture quality is great so it wasn't a bad decision all in all. Still can't stand the long boot up time, though. Oh well.

Just curious. You must own a lot of movies to warrant a back-up player. Not being critical. I myself purchased an extra Dreamcast when they were being clearanced for the same reason. Over a thousand bucks in Dreamcast games made it a no-brainer...at the time. However, now my original Dreamcast sits gathering dust, plus my boxed one sits there too, waiting for my brother to visit someday so we can fire up those cool light-gun games.

Yeah, I have about 30ish HD-DVDs, including season one of Heroes. Enough that I plan to continue using the player. Also I am anticipating big price reductions for existing stock, so I'll beef up my collection further when I see good deals.
