Being considered. Not surprising considering the fact that they've never raised it. I buy far too many things on Amazon to give up on Prime... but still, another 20 to 40 bucks?  paranoid

I get a lot of value from Prime between free shipping, Instant Video stuff, etc.  I would probably pay.

Heck sending all my Christmas gifts around the country alone probably costs as much as the Prime membership.

I hate this because all the analysts talked about the last few years was how Amazon could charge $20 for it and still make a profit.

I'd still probably pay it because even at $40 more I'd make up for it with my Christmas shopping alone, but I wouldn't be happy. Ironically, it may make me use it even more so I felt I was getting my money's worth!

20 dollars, maybe.  but 40 puts it out of my "I NEED IT!" range.

Same here.  I haven't even got that much value out of my first year so to go and ask for more next year would put this into the 'nice, but not at that price' category

I pretty much buy everything I can via Amazon nowadays, so I'm in for either increment. Seriously, if I could do all of my grocery shopping via Amazon I would (hoping that happens soon....)

same here.  I placed 118 orders with amazon in 2013.  I wish there was a way to easily see how many were prime.  We do a lot of subscribe and save.  Lets say without prime and for 2 day shipping costs $6 I would need to make 13 orders to break even at the current $79 rate.  If it went up $20, I would need 3 more orders, and at $40 6 more.  Very doable and I'd still probably be ahead of the game.

I love Prime but in the bay area my shipping dates have been missed for the last 2 months over half the time.  I keep contacting them and getting free months tacked on, but what's the deal!?

Hopefully existing customers will be grandfathered in.

I can see them adding an influx of new customers just by announcing the price hike date but assuring customers they'll stay at that rate until they decide to leave. If they come back again, they pay the new rates.

You can do that in certain areas (LA, San Francisco and Seattle).  We have Amazon Fresh available here, but I think you need to subscribe to that as well and it costs $300, so I haven't really looked into it.

Those same analysts are bitching about how Amazon doesn't make any money. Bezos has never cared what shareholders thought, so this is kind of surprising.

Yeah - pretty much addicted to prime, so I'm in even if they increase the price.  Considering that we buy pretty close to all of our Christmas presents from Amazon, we can justify the cost just from Christmas alone.  So everything I buy throughout the year is just cherry on top. We do have a lot of food items regularly shipped to us in bulk too (things like Kashi bars, cleaning supplies, etc).

I still love it but it's no where near as good as it used to be.  Their videos on demand isn't really growing and the 2 day shipping is actually 3-4 day 50% of the time.  I don't see how they're adding any value while still wanting to increase prices...maybe drop the super cheap mom and student $29 prime memberships instead.

I'm guessing it depends on where you live and who is doing the fulfillment. My 'two day shipping' is two days 99.99% of the time. Heck, I've had them ship overnight to make the two day window. thumbsup

Yep, it's odd. Someone who lives a mile or two away from me says her shipments are often late, yet I would say my shipments are almost never late. In fact more and more I am getting things in one day instead if two. Happened just today.

If you have a guaranteed delivery date and it does not arrive by that time, you can get a free month of Prime (up to 12 per year).

In general, if you're ever having problems with Amazon you should contact them.  They're likely to do something for your trouble, and hopefully fix the problem for the future.

Same here.  In the past month since they've started collecting sales tax, I already find myself shopping there less.  Jacking up Prime won't help things.

NewEgg rolling out their own version of Prime without the streaming.

Quote
While Amazon's debating whether or not it should hike Prime subscription fees in the US, now its decision may have to take into consideration a potential competitor. This morning, Newegg introduced Premier, a $50 shipping service that aims to cope with the likes of Amazon Prime. For that yearly fee, Newegg promises to get stuff to your doorstep in three days or less, as well as a number of other benefits including no restocking fees, free returns and dedicated customer service. You will, however, miss out on the Instant Video streaming offered through Prime, but this also means you'll end up saving $29 per year -- which is something that could make sense to folks who are already subscribed to Netflix.

Nice idea Newegg, but until they start selling books, toilet bowl seats and diabetic food items on top of electronics, I'll probably just stick with Amazon Prime.

Hmm. Newegg already tends to ship items to me in 2 business days no matter the shipping option I choose. Why would I pay money for that feature?

I've tried this multiple times (I had four late shipments in Nov and Dec) and at best I received an "ehhh, oops but it happens" canned response.  Even asking for more has gone no where and I've never received a free month of prime even though I've been a prime member for years.

I have been saying how Amazon has always been on time if not early for me and the rest of you are just unlucky. So of course this weekend Fedex didn't deliver something on Saturday because of a winter storm in the Pacific NW. There was no storm, and the package was coming from CA. I am not going to complain to Amazon though, they rarely use Fedex, thankfully, and maybe the weather was bad somewhere in the chain. I always have terrible luck with Fedex.

There was some type of bad weather in the area, I work for an airline that uses a lot of Alaska air flights in that area and a bunch of them cancelled due to weather issues and I got yelled at by a bunch of passengers stuck in Portland and other airports in the area.

Portland and Vancouver are apparently pretty well snowed in.  plus, we had a bunch drop here Saturday night.  Granted, it was melted off by Sunday evening, but if they are shipping by truck, I'd expect a delay

Well that's your guys problem, Portland is the Central West, not Pacific NW. (I am kidding).

We got an inch in Mill Creek. Roads were fine. UPS must be an amazing company, something that came from Maine through a much bigger storm in the east, made it on time. Fedex from CA still is looking to be  at least 4 days for a next day air (not counting Sunday obviously). We'll see if it shows up tomorrow.

I am aware it's all about hubs and Fedex's hub must be in Oregon, but I never have these problems with UPS. Fedex it happens far too often, weather or not.

Apparently a price hike has hit the UK, with their price going from from 49 to 79.

Although apparently they didn't have Prime Instant Video included and now they're getting that.

I know that Prime exists for amazon.ca, but I've honestly never looked into it on account of them now accepting paypal. What does Prime do - give you free shipping, a discount, faster shipping? If it's just free shipping that wouldn't lure me away from chapters.ca as I get that with them on any order of $25 or more, my items always arrives within 5 business days and I never buy anything that costs less than 25.
