Green? WTH, I want a green cover. They only have blue, red, and black listed.

I preordered. My second attempt to get into an Android device, after a Nexus 7. Hoping Amazon's OS smooths out Androids rough edges a bit and I find it more enjoyable.

Interesting timing, looks like a great device, but we should be seeing Apple's next iPad soon. It should be 64 bit like the iPhone 5s which is pretty damn fast. Apple has had over a year since any real innovation with the iPad, so I am expecting a lot.

Had one for about a month. It goes with me almost as much as my phone.

LOVE The Kindle Paperwhite cover (I got the yellow one *cough*persimmon*cough*). It is so comfortable and light.

I have been considering getting a paperwhite as I only use my original Fire for reading and I never use the tablet for anything else.

The Paperwhite reading experience can't be beat.  It looks just like a book, incredible battery life, excellent lighting and extremely light.  I bought a slip-in cover for mine for travel instead of a snap-in case because I didn't want to add any bulk to the device.  I love that it's so light and didn't want to mess that up.

I'll be upgrading to the 7IN HDX from a KF 1st gen.  even now, the KF is a solid device and well worth the money.  Love that I can get one of those plus one of the fancy new cases for less than an ipad mini.

I had those same concerns - I find the grip to be fantastic though (the edge is actually rubber) so if you read landscape and have something propping the "cover" behind it, it stands up just fine.

Some pics:

In the last one you can see the phone and the handset cord providing enough tension to hold the backing to prop up the case. The yellow edge is the rubberized part.

The lack of the Google Play store does bother me. How is Amazons app store?

My only complaint about the Paperwhite cover is that the little metal nub seems to be exactly where my hand goes.

I also would like a portrait stand version.  I don't like reading in landscape on it (though I prefer that way on the Kindle app), but it's hard to prop up in bed.  Minor gripe there, though.

It looks like the origami one might support  it, given the angle.

that's one of my few complaints too.  yes, you can sideload apps on it, but you don't get the benefit of speed and easy updates.  2nd grief is that they limited app install space to 1gb on the KF, which has 8.

Yeah, and the non leather cases come in more colors, I want a leather case.

I am really torn if I should go through with getting an HDX. The new Nexus 7 is probably the better hardware, but I find Android to be rough and I am very curious to see Amazon's fork of it (is that the right terminology?). I really want a 7" tablet but I want a full size iPad, so no point in getting a mini. Plus I really shouldn't spend the money since I am buying a new iPad as soon as they are released....

I just noticed this in the product description:

Quote
Vegan synthetic leather with soft non-scratch microfiber interior (NOT Compatible with HDX)

the item name clearly says "rooCASE Amazon Kindle Fire 2013 HD 7" / HDX 7" / HDX 8.9" / 2012 HD 7" / 2012 Fire 7" Origami Case Cover".

 confused

Got my 7" HDX, it is a pretty neat design. Except the edge of the screen has a purple border going around it that is very noticeable on white backgrounds. Some reviews mention it, but most don't, so not sure if it is a flaw or not.

I got the new Paperwhite a few weeks ago and really love it. The screen illumination is something else. It's so soft now and I don't see any of the weird lighting of the old one. The device is noticeably faster. The other great feature is the book pop up that allows you to quickly scroll through a book but will return you to the last page you were reading. I read that the contrast was better and fonts were sharper but it's hard to tell. Anyway,  thumbsup from me.

Amazon is sending me a new HDX. I have zero luck with Android tablets. My Nexus 7 last year was defective and returned and now this with the HDX. I f the replacement has an issue as well, I will never buy another non Apple tablet.  disgust
