Spammer goes to trialThink spam doesn't make money? Check these facts: * This guy was making up to $750,000 A MONTH sending out 10 million emails. * Only 1 in 30,000 respond, but at $40 a pop, he was pulling in 6 figures. * Was using bandwidth that would typically be used by a 1000 person company * he used stolen AOL and EBay address lists. * According to prosecutors, he has a net worth of $24 million, and one of his houses is a mansion. He's 30 years old. I hope he does the full 9 years, but even if he does, he'd probably be out in 5, and then has $24M to spend. Maybe they'll make him pay back the money he ripped off from people.

I think jail time is a little overkill, and another wasteful expenidture on our justice system.

I know everyone else will say this is overracting, but I dont think a bullet to the head is uncalled for in this. I hate all the pieces of shit like this that make life a little worse for eveyone else for their own benefit. Also make sure you improve society by killing the two accomplices as well.

YOu do realize that this man basically stole accounts and forged identities to do his spamming right?
Last time I looked, these were federal offenses with jail time penalties.

For you, this isn't really over-reacting, Big Jake. You're a very feisty individual.

For you, this isn't really over-reacting, Big Jake. You're a very feisty individual. God help the defendant if Big Jake ever becomes a judge And I agree with Turtle, this guy didn't just annoy people with unwanted emails. He broke the law in a number of ways, including defrauding people out of their money with bogus products and services. He very much deserves jail time, and to be honest, if Big Jake got a hold of him, I wouldn't care much.

It's interesting to me that this guy and that hacker who was busted a few years ago and sent to federal prison were both from Raleigh, North Carolina. Why?? That's my hometown.

Man, he was making a ton of money. I can't even imagine what I would do if I started making income like that.

Man, he was making a ton of money. I can't even imagine what I would do if I started making income like that. And the thing is.. he didn't have to do *anything* for it. The computers sent out emails 24/7, and he just sat there collecting credit card orders. There is indeed "one born every minute"

I tend to think that the actual act of spamming while annoying, is just a sign of someone with weak character benefiting off of ignorance of others. Nothing more and nothing less. Pretty much sums up American Business in general in one way or another. (At least if you are very successful and rich!) For spam, I just I bought Mailwasher Pro and it takes care of most of my problems. All I have to do is a couple of button clicks you know. Sadly, most could eradicate the problem almost completely by doing the same. That's where the ignorance comes in to play though. Now stealing information though, this is punishable and I hope he gets everything coming to him.

The thing is deadzone, as anti-corporate as I am, I realize that most business DON'T rely on solely tricking people into giving them money. Most workplaces truly do start by providing a service or good, and while they may sometimes use shitty customer (or employee) treament methods, the core of the business is still providing that good/service.
As I grow older, I get more thoroughly intolerant of those who 'want to get rich quick' and eschew work.
And everyone here: I feel your love.

Heh B-Jake I understand man. Posting on an internet board is a farcry from the actual act of doing it. Anyway, I agree with you, I suppose it's a stretch to compare a spammer to an actual business anyway.... I sort of meant the mindset of the two mostly if that makes any sense. It's much harder to connect the two outside of this though admitidly. Sends some non-poind-in-the-ass love towards Big Jake
