Yeah, the song linked is called "J'en ai marre" (I'm Fed Up).  Those lyrics are from "Moi Lolita", a hit song of hers from several years earlier.

This stuff is all on wikipedia.  I never ever heard of her until this post.

Good point. They video says that translation has been adapted to convey meaning.  So, I don't know which translation is really better: is one more literal or is the other really more true to the intention of the song?

I think that his translation makes MUCH less sense than the other translation.  He seems to have added things in.  Its like watching a subtitled anime and KNOWING that what they are saying isnt the same thing.  Oh well.  i still think she's cute.  And the music isnt really to bad either.

Wow.  Just when I think the Internet has no redeeming value, it revitalizes my faith in... France.

I think I liked the "song" (and by that I mean video of her gyrating around on various stages) better when I didn't know the lyrics.  I was always afraid to put my high school French on it, as I thought it would end up exactly like it did based upon what I could make out from hearing her sing.  I think the printed translation is closer, though, although it just may be phrasing or word choice in most cases.

It still doesn't make this any less awesome or win.  She may be the embodiment of my dreams made flesh.

I'm no expert on french, but I'd be willing to bet the english version and french version are not really all that much alike in lyrics.  Most likely the song was rewritten for english so that if fit the music better.  If nothing else, her rather poor dancing in the english version of the stage show would indicate she had no real confidence in adapting the dance routine to that version of the song.

To be honest, this whole thing seems a little weird.  That video is almost five years old, she was 19 at the time, and from what wikipedia says, she's appears to be a manufactured pop star along the lines of Britney Spears.  If you all want to go down that path again, have fun.

I think the first english subtitle version is probably the more literal translation and the second is adapted to make the English words fit the tune better.  It certainly sounds better in French.
